I'm from Scotland and looking to apply to some colleges in the US to start in fall 2014.
I would be applying to graduate courses in history and although I know the deadlines for many courses, does anyone happen to know how early you can start applying?
For example, the University of Alabama has a deadline of January 1, would it be too early to apply now?

I highly doubt any school has an open application for 2014. The earliest schools tend to release their applications in the summer, some around September.

I did notice one University in Texas had an early deadine of November 15th and that’s why I was wondering if I could apply now, but I will just wait until after the summer

Many schools have early action or early decision deadline on November 1. It does not help by sending in application early. You better spend more time to prepare for the application and essays. For rolling application, the earlier applicant will have a better chance.

I believe many of the other posters are giving you deadlines for the college. The graduate school asks for documentation six months prior to the term.

Thanks billcsho - I will wait to apply and make sure I do a better job on the forms

Thanks T26E4 - yeah, Alabama is one of the schools. Thanks for the link! I see the 6 months deadline. It also states that I need to be early enough to be considered for the graduate assistantship as well.

Sometimes it can be quite confusing between graduate school deadlines / subject deadlines / international deadlines!
