How early can you take the GREs?

And does each one you take count?

You can take the GREs whenever you want, but the scores are only good for five years (so taking them freshman year of college probably isn't a good idea, in case you want to take a year or two off after undergrad).

I believe I've heard that all scores are shown on each score report.

^^^^ correct

Some schools take your best scores. Some average your scores. Some takes your most recent. So pretty much it depends on the institution

Do subject-test GREs show up on the same score report as the general test? I'd assume so, since the SAT was that way, but I figure I'll check

Yes, they show up on the same score report, but only if you request that it's that way -- when you ask them to send score reports to a school, you have to specifically request that they send both your general and subject scores. It doesn't cost any more to send both, though.

Just as a heads-up to people who are applying this year -- ETS is kind of incompetent, and I'd advise checking with all your schools to make sure the scores actually get there.

I had to spend $21 extra dollars for a rush report even though I'd sent the scores to that school already and my scores had gotten to all the other schools I had listed on the original score report sheet. And they don't even send them by mail to the schools -- most of them get scores electronically.

Way to rock the understatement. :p
