I applied RD to a few very selective schools with Jan 1 deadlines. (Don’t worry, I already have a few acceptances and safeties.)
The biggest weakness on my application was a drop in my grades second semester junior year to around a 3.5 UW from consistent 4.0 before. Without the midyear report, those grades were the last that the schools saw. This was a major reason for waiting to apply RD. My midyear report, which showed that I went back up to a 4.0 this past semester, was sent in a little late, and most portals are showing that it was received only yesterday.
My question is - do you think there is a possibility that I have already been ruled out at some schools because of the grade drop without an accompanying report to show a bounce back?
Interested to hear thoughts on how early schools might reject kids, or if they might hang on to an application.
Is it possible? Sure. But it’s unknowable. So why are you torturing yourself with something that both unknowable and unchangeable?
Surely you’ve worked hard these 3.75 years of HS. You can breathe lighter now. Might you get some rejections? Most kids do. So what? Go enjoy your last HS semester. Go out with a bang. Ask out all the girls/guys you were previously afraid to. Knock out the best grades in your classes because you can, not because anyone is looking at you.
You’ll be fine.
@T26E4 Thanks for the calming input.
I guess I’m just stressing, trying to stay realistic. And trust me, I’m definitely trying to follow that philosophy this semester - it’s working so far, this is probably the best time I’ve ever had in HS.
As T26E4 mentioned, you will most likely get some rejections anyway - most do, and it will probably have nothing to do with any one particular thing but you will never know, so please don’t stress. One school may reject you because there are many students with no grade fluctuation and another may accept you because they see how hard you worked this past semester to bring your grades back up. Sounds like you’ve done a great job - so be proud of yourself and whatever the results will be.
Thanks @myjanda - that makes a lot of sense.
You should not worry until you receive the notice. In any case, you have safety and other acceptance already. Just relax and hope for the best.
