My school has like only 6 APs, and they’re all history/humanities except for Stats. They don’t have prerequisites. My school is an IB school though. Most of them only have recommendations of classes to take before, and only a few have actual prerequisites.

If you have a good reputation at my school, then you can take any AP class you want. Seriously, a sophomore friend of mine was able to sign up for physics C with no prior physics experience.

There’s no grade pre-req but typically a course. Mainly for the sciences. Ex: you have to take bio and chem before you can take AP Bio, Chem, or Environmental Science. You can’t take AP physics without any prior physics class. You can’t take AP stats if you didn’t complete algebra 2. Anyone could waiver into an AP humanity class.

Everyone here pretty much gets into any AP class they choose. Imo, standards really need to be tightened. /: These girls in my AP World class didn’t even know what a “monetary system” was…

It’s all over the place at my school. For some AP classes, you and your parent need to sign a contract and that’s it. Those are for AP English and History classes, which are all separated by grade. For our math classes, you need a C or better in your previous math class. And for AP Sciences, we need to have taken certain classes beforehand.

For my school you need a teacher recommendation from your previous teacher in that subject, but most teachers will do it for you if you just ask.

85 in previous course and principal’s approval.

I think most schools do not set the bar for getting in too high. At my school, as long as you have a B- or above, you can get into the AP class. Our school does, however, limit the number of APs that you take. In sophomore year, you are allowed to take only 1 (World History). Then you are allowed to take 2 in junior and senior year although if you think that you are capable and your grades prove it, you can talk your guidance counselor into letting you take 4 but that’s the maximum.

At my school, there are definitely pre-requisites for AP classes. I’ve never paid attention to them much (I’m a straight A student and meet all the requirements because of this), but from what I remember, you have to get at least C’s in the lower level classes to qualify for the AP level. I’m sure most even require B’s or higher. I know that’s the case for AP English.

In my school you can totally bomb one year and take 4 aps the next . My school shoves as many people as possible into Ap classes .

Math and science classes have prerequisites for them but for other classes you need a teacher recommendation. The teachers say yes no matter what

my school has 0 pre req for most ap classes…

Our school only allows students who get recommendations from their prior teachers to take a given AP class.

It’s pretty hard to do actually, first you have to fill out a really lengthy form. Like seriously. I took a whole 5 minutes to complete it. Then when you go to your home room the next day you have to actually GET UP and HAND IT to the teacher. All that for an AP class?

NotWorth

^Assuming you’re being sarcastic.

At my school it’s easier to get into AP than honors xD For honors, it all depends on these standardized test scores from like 8th grade… If you didn’t get into the 95th percentile, no honors for you But you can submit an appeal form, and if you’re lucky, you can take a test to get into that honors course. The tests are pretty hard. I couldn’t get into Honors Bio because my school didn’t take the science TerraNova. I tried taking the appeal test, and I was 5 percent away from getting in… :-< No one from my school is going to be in Honors Bio next year. But I’m taking AP Human Geography, and the only requirements are A’s in a previous history course and English course. There are prerequisites for all APs, but you can sign a waiver if you don’t completely fulfill them. I don’t see why Honors Biology is harder to get into than AP Biology, but whatever…

You can have 6 out of 7 periods AP. You can try to take 7 by submitting a written request to your guidance counselor, but it’s really unlikely. I mean, my guidance counselor didn’t want me to take AP Human Geo because of how “rigorous and time-consuming” it is.

Sorry I’m posting this xD I know this thread is kind of old. I just thought it was unusual that it’s harder to get into honors than AP at my school.

At my daughters school, you had to fill out an application, consult a teacher you had in that specific subject, and then submit it.

Well at my school, a young woman who legitimately believed that Japan was located in Africa got into APUSH without a problem (our teacher emphasized geography). Though you all should know, she dropped out within the second month of school.

Man, I feel sorry for ya’ll. I took 3 APs last year (freshman year), one of which was Chem. I had had no prior Chem class. Got a 5, so it’s possible. And…I’ll be taking 5 APs next year (10th grade), Lang, APUSH, Bio, Macro and Micro Economics.
No prior experience in US History or Bio.

in my school, the actual requirements are quite low(like all you need is a C in the corresponding honors class or a B in the corresponding college prep class)…getting A’s in AP classes is a whole other story…
