Buying a gun is disturbing?

well, if you are going to college it is. Hello...depression rates...are you just trying to be prepared? or is this a pure curiosity thread?

Are you saying all gun owners are depressed and want to kill themselves?

So we've now determined everyone who owns a gun is either a murderer or suicidal.

stop being a jerk hoke! twisting my words will get you nowhere. Besides, college campuses dont allow guns.

How am I twisting your words? You are the one who brought up the depression thing.

I am a liberal, pro-choice atheist, but I am completely for the right to bear arms. It is very symbolic and of much importance to the founding of this country. I don't own a gun, and I would rather not be around them (unfortunately I handle and sell them every day at work), but that doesn't mean I think they should be illegal.

Before buying a gun, one must pass a government-run background check, so I don't see a problem. There are loopholes, but they are worth it to keep this country as free as we can. Criminals will get guns whether we like it or not. We just have to try not to breed so many murderers!

The man who trades freedom for security does not deserve nor will he ever receive either.
-Benjamin Franklin

You don't even need to complete a background check in many, many states, assuming you are buying guns legally...

...really? I don't quite believe that. I live in the very southern state of arkansas and we would get in so much **** if we let someone purchase a gun without a background check.

Do you have a source for your statement? I am very curious about it.

Shrug, if I care enough tomorrow I'll dig up some info on the states I know that are lax. I doubt I will care enough though.

What do you mean 'complete background check'? As far as I know they confirm citizenship and check their jail record. I don't see what more should be done. Put their DNA in a nation-wide database? heh...that sounds appealing (terrifying, actually)

I lumped in "government" with "complete".

Well, that is an important statement to make without some back-up.

I am a witness, because I sell them. I call in background checks to NICS every day. Many people get delayed for further investigation. They call back later and proceed them. That usually happens when there is a felon with a similar name and the buyer was too paranoid to put down his Social Security number. That's not a requirement, but most people will list it, because it is easier to proceed you (unless you are a felon).

the question still remains...why do you want a gun for your undergraduate career?

In your state.

Flgirl, some people recreationally shoot. What is so wrong with that?

My father just won in his class on Sunday. He won best in the world twice for skeet shooting. He loves it, and it takes a lot of talent. He hates hunting, though. He will never hunt. He thinks it's disturbing to kill things for entertainment. I completely agree with him.

Exactly. My state has some of the most liberal gun laws.

haha! dumbasses...

So, is it the gun's falt or the moron's falt?

Would it be better if they were throwing knives or thowing cats? Should we ban those too?
