How commonly is this done? Will it be hard for me to get accepted?

I got accepted to the CAS, but I'm thinking about maybe transferring to Cornell Engineering. If accepted, would my education be affected in any way? For example, would I have to stay an extra year, etc?

It is easy to transfer to any except Engineering. Engineering is the hardest because it has the strictest curriculm starting from Freshman year. If you know that you want to transfer to engineering you can but you would want to pre-enroll in freshmen engineering classes. One of my friends is transferring from CS in CAS to CoE but she is a little behind because she decided this past semester that she wanted to so she is a semester behind but she should be able to catch up. However you still have to stay in good academic standing in CAS while you complete the pre-reqs for engineering since you don’t actually affiliate to a major until Sophomore year.

So, if you know you want to do it now or by the end of the first semester you won’t have to stay an extra semester but you might if you decide during your sophomore year, depending on how many credits you have to place out of the pre-req classes. It depends on a variety of factors on if you’ll have to stay longer but engineering is the hardest to transfer into. If you have any questions about CoE freshmen classes or CoE in general, I’ll be happy to answer them!
