If your a local to CSULA, how hard or easy is it to get in? In other words, what gpa would you need and a score on the new SAT to be admitted? I know its hard to know, but i just want a general idea. thank you.
sorry, i want to rephrase my question. What is the MINIMUM gpa and MINIMUM score on the sat i have to get so i have no trouble getting into csula? hahaha thanks
All CSU’s (except SLO) use the eligibility index to rank applicants. (CSU GPA x800) + (SAT Math + CR). For most non-impacted majors and campuses, a 2900 EI for in-state is the minimum EI to get an acceptance.
Here is the list of impacted majors at CSULA along with the other campuses, so depending upon your major, you need at least the minimum EI.

If you have under a 3.0 CSU GPA, then use this table to determine what minimum SAT score you need.

thanks for the reply. i have a question about the link you sent me. Are the scores for the sat based on the new one, or the old one?
Based on the old SAT but the CSU’s only use SAT Math and CR so out of 1600.
THANKS. i have another question hahaha, can you explain what non-impacted majors are?
Actually, i figured that out. So if i apply for a major thats not as impacted as the others, would i have a greater or lower chance of getting in CSULA?
Thank you gumbymom for answering my questions. However, i still want to know the Minimum gpa and sat score i need to get a guarantee acceptance to csula or csun :P. You were still alot of help GumbyMom.
Sorry, but there are no guaranteed acceptances for these schools. You have a higher chance if you are within the local service area of these schools since you get priority. If you are outside the local service area, the minimum EI could be higher.

What are your current Stats?
All I can give you are the average GPA and SAT scores for each campus. You would need a minimum 2.0 GPA for any CSU campus just to apply.
CSULA::
Average GPA: 3.21
Average SAT (Math+CR): 926
CSUN::
Average GPA: 3.09
Average SAT (Math+CR): 886
If you are at or above the average, then you have a very good chance for an acceptance.
hi gumby mom. does the average gpa you posted on csun and csula include PE?
No, the average CSU GPA’s are based on the a-g course requirements used in the CSU GPA calculation.
So if i have a gpa lower than the average gpa, i could still get in if i have a higher SAT score right?
Im thinking about a 2.8 gpa and a 1250/1600 on the sat
what are my chances?
i am also a local to northridge and csula
You can only be local to one CSU either Northridge or LA. Did you see the in-service area link I posted?
CSU admissions are all based on your eligibility index so then based on your posted stats, you have an EI of around 3490. This EI should get you an acceptance at CSUN and CSULA. If your intended major is impacted, then your acceptance will based upon the other applicants EI’s and where you stand in comparison. CSU’s will rank each applicant based on their EI and start accepting from the top, down until all spots are filled. If you are in the local in-service area, you will get priority. Just an FYI: CSUN only accepted local applicants last year regardless of their stats.
Ok thanks gumbymom:) you have been lots of help. ill let you know if i have any more questions:P
Glad I could help. Good luck.
Kind of a bummer, CSUN only accepting local applicants. Hopefully they accept non-local students when i apply next year.
