To transfer to Amherst after a year at Community College or after a year at another 4 year institution?

Haven't checked, but I think you'll find the answer on the Amherst web site if you search "common data set".

You've asked this question so many times before. Why not go straight to the source and call the Admissions Dept? No one here can obvioulsy give you an accurate answer or the answer you are looking for.

Since I love being here (Amherst + CC) so much, I'll humor you.
This information might help other people as well.

The most recent Report to Secondary Schools:

5.58 percent of transfer applicants were accepted, cf. page 5, bottom.

5.58% accepted.....that means not easy at all. Actually very very very hard.

Thank you, kwu for the data.

We will allow this thread on this topic for Seachai and after that, no more.

It has been asked -- and now answered very clearly, thanks to kwu.

So I'm guessing that if someone doesn't get in as a freshmen, then it's impossible to get in as a transfer right?

Pretty much.

^
This is not really true according to Amherst's own website. Please see the Amherst College Community College Agreement:

"Amherst typically admits one out of every six students who apply. In previous years,
competitive applicants have had at least an A- average in college coursework."

One out of six community college applicants is much higher than 5.58%. It's actually more like 17%. Maybe that 5.58% is true for transfer applicants in general, but due to a grant from the Jack Kent Cooke Foundation, Amherst College now specifically targets qualified community college students.

Are you kidding me? That's wayy less than 5.58%. Out of the 5.58% we have hundreds of students trying to apply as a transfer and about 18 get accepted out of the other hundreds.

So that means if it's 1 out of every other applicants, how can it be 17% then? That's like 4% less than the 5.58%, which means it's 1% for community college students compared to the others who are coming from a 4 year institution.

HUH?

The last post is a bit hard to follow.

Seachai, based upon the info from Amherst linked in post #9 by jaykoblives, it sounds as though it's 5.58% acceptance rate for all, but 17 percent acceptance rate for Community College transfer students.

In addition:

Community college transfer applicants are also welcomed to schedule an appointment with a member of the admissions staff to discuss opportunities at Amherst and the transfer process.

That's an opportunity not available to other applicants, since Amherst does not interview other kinds of applicants. Yet here they are saying you can call and schedule an appointment if what you're trying to do is transfer from a community college into Amherst.

There's your opportunity to find out an answer directly from the Admissions Department.

Seachai's post #10 is confusing.

Wow.. I never knew the percentage was that high.

It's pretty hard.
