how ****ed will T14 schools be if i apply as URM african american as an egyptian?

imho, you should check “african american”. it is a self identifying process, and your heritage certainly is african.

if the box were “sub-saharan african american” then things would be different.

it’s not misrepresentation if you honestly believe you are african american, so from here on out you SWEAR to ANYONE who asks that your family is african. and you may want to do any law school interviews on the phone…

i personally don’t think this is wrong. the whole process is sort of dumb, precisely because of cases like this. technically you are african, additionally no one really checks and the definition is fuzzy anyway.

also, you may want to discuss your experiences as a muslim american (if you are one), there are plenty of AA muslims, and islamophobia is pretty big in the US right now. that’s another soft factor that will boost your chances.

IMPORTANT
DO NOT TELL ANYONE that you checked “African American”. If no one knows, no one can notify your school/bar association that you’re stretching the truth.

the cut off is 1/4. urugayans are usually white, but hispanic is not a racial category - it’s an ethniticity. if you’re 1/4 urugayan, you’re biracial, hispanic, and not a URM

madyln08, what stupid advice telling someone to break the law and commit fraud punishable by prison. I’m sure you will make a good lawyer as you will be able to help your clients from inside the prison cell. The process is clear that they do not consider non subsaharan africans from the non black groups to be african american.
