How else can i ask? Chances! please

Hi i know these are such annoying posts, but thank you thank you thank you for answering or even reading. i’m just really curious and i’m thinking of switching to EDI for Bowdoin, but before i do i want to know if that’s even realistic or just ridiculous.

White female, Jewish, suburb of NY
3 in a class of about 500
Senior courses: AP Chemistry, AP Calculus BC, AP Comp. Gov., AP Spanish, AP English Comp. & Writing

Scores:
SAT - I’m retaking it in November, hopefully the math score will move up!
V-730 W-780 M-650
SAT II’s: Biology E (680, 800); U.S. History (800)
AP’s: French (5), World History (5), English Lit. (5), US History (5)

Extracurriculars:
–Varisty swimming (9, 10, 11, 12), and I was on the YMCA swimteam in 11th grade, as well
–School newspaper: Editor-in-Chief (12), Associate Editor (11), Opinions Editor (10), Lifestyles Asst. Editor (9)
–I was Co-President of the school’s environmental organization last year, and we held an “Earth Night” that raised several hundred dollars for New York Advocates for the Earth
–I’m in the school’s choir, select ensemble, school musicals (9, 10), and I participated in the Area All-State Choir in 11th grade and will do so again this year
– National Honors Society (11, 12)
–Community service: teaching yoga to autistic children, teaching elementary school kids about environmentalism, Midnight Runs, volunteered at academic team meets

That’s it, pretty much. My essays will be strong, and my recommendations should be good, too (fingers crossed). And i have various academic awards, including a Harvard book award but i don’t know if that actually stands for anything.

What do you think my chances are if I apply EDI? Please be brutally honest, and thank you so much for reading this!

Oh, and i forgot to mention summer stuff: two summers ago i volunteered in Peru, the summer after that i went to a French immersion program for a month, and this past summer i worked as a counselor at a summer camp.

Hi yogini,

I think your chances are good if you apply ED1. Is Bowdoin your first choice? If so, you should certainly apply ED1. If there's another school you'd rather go to, apply there for ED, although I give my highest recommendation to applying ED1 to Bowdoin. :)

Thanks pb!
yeah i am definitely applying ED1. actually i'd originally planned on Middlebury but I cam to the realization that Bowdoin students seem far more down-to-earth and less pretentious. I'm sorry I know I'm stereotyping, but...
Do you go to Bowdoin? For some reason I thought you did from a previous thread. If so, how do you like it?

hi yogini,

i went to bowdoin a few years ago. i liked it a lot. it was exactly what i was looking for - students of ivy league caliber without much attitude. i would definitely recommend you apply ED1. it was a great experience. :)

talk to the coach here about swimming
ask him to let you stay overnight as a recruit
this way you get to see what it's like here on a weekend (it's awesome) and if you go ED the coach will be more likely to give you an athletic tip and with a tip, your grades (which for a possible recruited athlete is absolutely spectacular) will pretty much guarantee your acceptance to this school.

That's assuming you want to continue swimming in college for at least a year.
anyway good luck

haha they wouldn't want to recruit me unless they were set on losing.

I don't have any competence to assess anyone's chances, so can't help you there, but could you explain what "area all state choir" is? I saw a reference somewhere else to "area all state" and wondered what it means.
