Hi,

My school puts such little focus on US college admissions since the vast majority go to the UK, and as a result I don't have a clue about how I go about applying. I'm an international, by the way.

I'm looking to apply to Stanford, Berkeley, MIT and Princeton for regular decisions this fall. I'll be taking the SAT subject tests in November (I know... late) and will also be repeating the SAT I in October and December since I bombed the June one (got 2000). Is December a possible SAT I date for RD?

I understand that there is a common application that I can use. However, only Princeton and Stanford use the common app, apparently. Other than filling in the common app, where do I get all the essay titles and whatever other packages I need for applying? Do I send this to them via internet? Where do I send it to? For Berkeley and MIT where can I get all of the applications packages? Is there a similar form to fill in as the common application?

Have the essay questions for fall 2009 released yet by the universities?

Finally, will I have to answer the why [university name]? questions for all of these colleges in my applications?

Thanks, and sorry if some of these questions are very obvious.

Since you have your list of schools, applying should simply be a matter of searching their websites for admissions and application related instructions. You should also look at each school’s site for specific information related to international students. For those that use the Common Application, you should also go to that website for instructions and materials.

Yes, you can take the SAT in December for RD applications. Just make sure to send the scores as soon as you can.

The common application is at www.commonapp.org . You don’t need to get the essay prompts seperately or anything; each school has an individual supplement, but the ones for both Stanford and Princeton are online.

MIT’s application (or rather, a page that prompts you to create an account that you will use for your application) is at <a href=“MIT Admissions”>MIT Admissions; . I believe that their application is also completely online.

Berkeley’s application will be at [University of California - Admissions](Apply now | UC Admissions) beginning some time around October 1. The essay prompts are at [University of California - Admissions](http://www.universityofcalifornia.edu/admissions/undergrad_adm/apply/how_apply/personal_statement.html) .

Yes, all the essay prompts have been released, and I BELIEVE that all of the colleges but Berkeley have a “why us?” question.

Thanks for the responses!

Just checked and MIT hasn’t released it’s application yet. I’ve searched for a while but haven’t been able to find the essay prompts for Stanford. It says on the website that the application is now online.

Since stanford is a commonapp school, you can just add it to your list of colleges there and then click on “supplement” and it should be there.

You can’t bomb on the SAT by any means if you get a 2000.

Bombing is relative, and for the schools the OP listed, an SAT score of 2000 is unlikely to result in an acceptance letter.

Thanks again for the replies.

Yeah, I’m aiming for a 2200+ by December. Of course, by bombing I mean relative to the schools I’m applying to (since I’m primarily applying to the UK I only plan on applying to a few schools in the US).

I don’t know about anywhere else, but for MIT, it’s possible to take the December SAT for RD. You can even take the January SAT, if you let MIT know that you’re doing it so they can watch out for the scores.
