How exactly do these "waitlists" work?

I wish to sign up for an AC class that has 60 students and currently has 7 students on the waitlist, my phase two begins on the 25th

So if I sign up for this class, what do I have to do to get into the class?

If you signed up for a class and you are on wait list, you can do one of the following: 1) Wait until other people drop so that people on the wait list will be put in the class, 2) Wait for the class to open up more seats (might be announced during 1st day of class, 3) If the wait list is manual, maybe at the 1st class you find out an assignment/application process to do to see who gets the spot and the professor can manually decide. Once you're on the wait list, you can't really do much but "wait".

Thanks Bigaus, your posts are always informative!!

Does the limit of the waiting list hint to any possible openings?

Not really, the limit on the wait list has nothing to do with possible openings. Some classes don't have wait lists while others have never-ending wait lists but never get full anyways. That's just how it is. I think unless the professor actually tells the enrollment people how big of a wait list they want for the class, it is probably arbitrarily decided.

I dont think many people will drop a required class, but it would be nice if more seats would be opened for an AC class. Does anyone know Prof. Bazian's waitlist policy by anychance? It probably hurts my chances that this is an upper division class

hmm my situation is a lil complicated
i have a waitlisted class, but as a backup i took another class that is exactly the same time and days as the waitlisted class. that means i can't attend the waitlist class to get it manually. does that mean... whats the technical term for my situation.... SCREWED?

I'm in a similar situation as Guardiangel. I'm on the wait-list for the class that I want, but I'm signed up for another class as a back-up which I plan to drop if I get into my wait-listed class. However, the times of the two classes overlap. Will this affect whether or not I get into my wait-listed class?
