How exactly does AP scores translate into units...?

So i went on ucla's ap policy page and assuming that i pass all of my ap exams this year and add that to last year's exams, i will get 56 units.

But let's say that i passed Chem but wish to take it over again when i get to ucla, do they not give me the 8 units that i recieved for passing the ap chem test because i will be retaking it anyway?

i'm confused can someone clarify how all this works?

I have a similar kind of question but I'm majoring in Art. If I passed Statistics, Physics, Calculus, can those AP scores get credit for some of the GE's? and if so which ones?

You need to list your scores, since 3's may not cut it for actual class credit. Search the forums and you should find AP score-unit equivalents. EDIT: Here's the website for AP score credit, http://www.admissions.ucla.edu/Prospect/APCredit.htm

If it says unassigned, then you just get units toward graduation, if there's a course listed (such as English 3 or Math 31A/B, then you can choose to get credit for that class and will not be able to take it again here, you do that at orientation)

So does this mean that if it says "unassigned", the credit given doesn't pass you out of any classes?? All it does is give you some units towards graduation?? In other words, they do nothing to help get rid of classes you have to take, right?

they don't count as specific classes if they're unassigned.
however, they give you units, so you need fewer units to graduate AND you get higher class standing sooner. a very good thing to have around here xD

Just curious. :)
Is it worth taking a class at a Community College that will get me Sophomore standing before I enter UCLA? Is having class pick priority really useful?

class standing does NOT help you your first quarter at UCLA, because if you're a first year, you sign up in the summer (after second years and above) regardless of your units.

after fall quarter is done, you'll have sophomore standing, seeing as you're only one class away. so really there's no point taking the class just to get sophomore standing now- it doesn't help you until winter quarter xD

If that's your sole purpose, then no. But it'd be nice to have Junior standing before or by the end of your first year. :)

Depends on your major.

from what i heard, it's a lifesaver.

You can't use your AP scores to clear the GE requirements, right? So do you still get units for them?

you will get units, but they're basically useless except for enrollment priority.

IMO, the only useful AP tests (for UCLA) are calculus, english, and foreign lanuage. all the other ones will basically just give you empty units.
