If I apply early decision to Cornell, will the application be read by the admission officer at the college I'm applying to (i.e College of Arts and Sciences) or will it be read by a general admissions officer for every application?

ED has nothing to do with who reads your app. the Adcom. evaluates your app no matter what. i dunno if they devide it up by state or college or what.

I remember reading somewhere that they divide them up by region.

hmmm... for some reason I always thought that they divide them by college... I thought someone told me that but I am not 100% sure/

I'm recalling along the same lines as fantosme: by region. No garuntees though

I'm almost certain the application is read by the admissions committee in each individual college. It may be read by regional counselors within the college and then discussed by the general committee.

Just to clarify, the application may be read by the regional counselor within the college you are applying to and then discussed by the admissions committee within that college.

Are you sure?

why does it matter in the first place? It won't change your chances.

I believe Stellarknight is correct. I know for sure that the School of Engineering has its own Admissions people who make the admissions decision. Can't speak to the other Cornell schools.

Not that i don't believe you, but sources for debated information are appreciated, be they a website or just someone to whom the quote is attributed

I'm just basing this on my own experience. Whenever I had a question on whether things were received, I always called engineering admissions. After my application was in I wanted to supplement it with a research paper I had written. I called engineering admissions and spoke to Mrs. Starr, the administrative assistant. She told me that my application would be going to committee soon and to send the paper directly to her and she would make sure it would go into my folder.

However I'm not entirely sure what the coordination is between general admissions and the admissions dep't of the individual colleges. If it's important for you to know, why not call admissions and find out?

I had asked the question last year at a local session hosted by the Cornell Adcom in this region. I asked only about engineering, and he said that the School of Engineering Adcoms would handle engineering applications. People interested in other schools should just call or e-mail the main admissions office.
