How exclusive are the clubs at Georgetown?

I asked this question in a thread on another topic but wanted to put out more generally: how difficult is it to join clubs at Georgetown? I have heard that there are a few that are quite difficult to join and that they are interrelated in that acceptance at one affects acceptance at others. How many clubs are like this? Does this affect the social lives of students? Do students find that they get rejected from the clubs they are interested in and are left either choosing between no clubs or clubs that are not really what they want to do? Clubs are how you find like-minded people, so it is troubling to me that you can’t necessarily join what you are interested in (aside from the ones that pay, which is a different story).

ChiliMom,

Congratulations on your child’s acceptance to Georgetown!

If your child decided to attend Georgetown, I wouldn’t worry whatsoever about the few ultra-exclusive clubs on campus. Thousands of students belong to hundreds of clubs at Georgetown that cater to an enormous diversity of interests. As only a small percentage of those students join the handful of ultra-exclusive clubs, having a fulfilling club life is not dependent upon being a member of an ultra-exclusive club.

You are correct that some clubs, like the Corp and the Credit Union, are highly competitive because they provide jobs to their members. Thus, as these jobs are limited in quantity, the number of students these clubs admit is correspondingly restricted. These jobs, however, comprise only a tiny universe of the school-year internships available to Georgetown students in D.C.

Good luck!

@espenser Thank you for the information and for your kind wishes!
