How far along are you in the application process?

How much as everyone done so far?

I haven't even started the actual grad school applications yet. I'm just working on the fellowship apps right now.

i'm still cutting my list down to an appropriate number of schools- i've been extremely meticulous, reviewing every single accredited school in my program (around 200).
i have it down to 22, just need to make the final cut to between 10-15 (you have to apply to that many schools in clinical psych because each program accepts around 6 students from 300 applications).

but i have my recommendations, my scores, and my transcripts, and i've contacted potential mentors.

my first due date is 12/1, so i have about a month before i start panicking!

Graduate School Applications (9 of them):
-GRE scores sent
-Transcripts sent
-Recommendations in the process of being sent
-Statement of interest final draft completed
-Applications all mostly filled out

Fellowship Applications (2 of them):
-GRE scores sent
-Transcripts sent
-Recommendations in the process of being sent
-Applications all mostly filled out
-Every essay but the research proposal is completed

ok, so my status will make you all feel better then. I'm applying to seven schools.

I'll have a first draft of my portfolio done for a review this weekend, and am visiting one school while I'm there.
I have secured the promise of recommendations from three profs, and will get them lists of schools, procedures, the forms, and portfolio samples and resume by next tuesday.

And.... that's it. I haven't started filling out forms, I haven't written essays, I haven't requested transcripts. My earliest deadline is 1/10/07 though.

My fiance is applying to an aerospace engineering masters program.

Done:
GRE taken, score sent
Recommenders asked, but not given forms yet
Application filled out (by his WONDERFUL FIANCEE)
Very nice CV written (also by WONDERFUL FIANCEE)

Not done:
Statement of purpose!
Transcripts
Figuring out what he needs to do so we have two stipends next year

Opposites attract, as they say... I think I started sending in apps in early November last year! He is not quite so organized. :)

I'm applying to 10 schools for cs phd.

I already submitted my applications and mailed various supporting docs to all schools. I have also requested from ets to send my gre scores.

The only thing missing right now is the recommendation letters from my profs.

All transcripts sent.
GRE scores sent.
Referees spoken to (no letter given yet)
SOP - has taken me much longer than i expected it to.

Q. Fellowship apps? i'm going to sound very ignorant with this question, but do these require a separate application?

on the FAQ website of the program i'm applying to, it says "January 5 is the deadline for fellowship consideration". the implication is that we should treat jan.5 as the application deadline, so that our app will be considered for fellowships. i've looked at the text from many angles, and i don't see it suggesting anywhere that the fellowships require a separate app (e.g. no links provided). there ARE links for financial aid apps, but that's obviously different. so am i missing out on potential grants by not specifically applying for any?

Fellowships like NSF require a separate application.

University specific fellowships (the ones you mean) generally do not have a separate application. Somewhere in the application form (either online or paper) there will be a check box or the like where you indicate you want to be considered for financial aid. Check it off and you're done.

That said, be sure to check with the financial aid office of each school to confirm. I'd make a call rather than email since its easier to get all the information you need and clear up anything you don't understand that way.

Obviously, each outside fellowship will require a separate application.

hey, for those who have filled out the online apps- do they want you to upload your essay(s) right there, or send them with the rest of your supplemental stuff?

All 11 of my online applications had me upload my essays. The only supplemental materials I had to mail myself were my transcripts.

Thanks, Addwit. I was just trying to figure out whether I needed to write the essays before I did the online apps. I guess so!

I have to mail a lot of supplementals for departmental requirements- portfolio, CV, sometimes even an extra essay.

sent my transcripts

almost done with my SOP
studying for my biochem gre; need to send both general and subject after.
requested 3 LOR but need to ask my new PI for one, and i have less than a month!
completed most of my online apps; just need to submit SOP online.
contacted one professor so far at stanford (and was surprised by a very friendly reply! he actually invited me to come to the lab for a visit), need to contact more at 7 different schools!

what sucks is that i have 3 important midterms on the monday and tuesday right after my biochem gre on saturday.

Secured 1 rec - Will get the other 2 by tuesday next week.
Picked out schools(mostly)
...

Then again, I'm only applying for master's. And other than MIT(which is Dec. 15), all deadlines are in january.

how about some more details...

Are you still in undergrad now? Working?

I'm working, and 2 years out of my last graduation (2004).

-finalizing my list of schools to apply to
-finishing my SOP
-will ask professors for LOR next month
-will request transcripts next week (btw, when do we send transcripts that include the current semester's grades? this is my last semester... will the grad school only care to see them after they have made their decision to reject or accept me, or will they request them before they decide?)

14ofspades: working, graduated in 2005. Employer does not know I'm applying. = )

larat: that's OK. just don't expect an LOR from said Employer :P

Just as a tip: a wiki works amazingly well for managing applications.

I set one up on my windows computer and it works great. Can access from anywhere just click to edit and it makes it all look nice!

-phpguru

care to explain what a 'wiki' is?
