Simple question. How long does it take to drive from one to the other under reasonable conditions? Thanks

With no traffic and going 75mph, it takes about an hour, but there's usually some traffic on the way.

is there a train that goes between the two?

It takes almost two hours by train. You have to take the Stanford Marguerite shuttle to the Palo Alto station, take Caltrain to the Millbrae station, then take BART (3 trains: Dublin/Pleasanton, then Pittsburgh/Bay Point, then Richmond) to the Berkeley station. A royal pain in the @$$.

Yeah by car it's about an hour, but there's usually traffic on the bridge...

imblue, how much does all that cost?

in total, around $8

marguerite = free
caltrain from zone C to B=$3.75
bart from millbrae to downtown berkeley = $4.25 i think ..may be less

caltrain takes around 30-35 minutes ON the train, but the waiting time (since a train only comes in intervals), as well as the waiting time in millbrae for the bart, makes it much longer.

the bart from millbrae to downtown berkeley takes around 40-45 minutes. if you're lucky/well-planned, you can make the trip to berk in 2 bart transfers...listening all the while you're sleeping...that's the way to do it!

you can check it all out online too...

From personal experience, 1 hour under VERY good conditions, 2 worse; median is around 1.5. This is from San Francisco -> Bay Bridge-> Berkeley, but I've heard that it's the same from Palo Alto -> San Mateo Bridge -> Berkeley. BART is faster from San Francisco.

If you are doing round-trips, double the hours.

Close enough to raid each other for an axe

Late at night 50 minutes by car.

This decade, the Axe stays in Berkeley, where it belongs!
