How far do ECs "Overshadow" you SAT scores ?

<p>I have always heard that ECs are more important than SAT scores ... What are you thoughts ?</p>

<p>For example, here are my SAT 1 Scores : 600 CR 670 M 690 W (8 essay) ... I know these are not that great but I do have pretty cool ECs(i don't know if they really are but I think they are)</p>

<p>To start off im an international student from a tiny African Island which uses the British Education System (A-Levels) which makes it tough for students like me to take the SAT.</p>

<p>EC list :
Awarded By Microsoft for having found a major bug in their system
Code software freely for the public
Helped thoroughly in setting up a blood donation
Worked on the school magazine
Got an article published about me on a local blog(i was trying out movie making)
Helped in Fund-raiser for my school
Organised a Lan Gaming Festival
Helped in setting a Karaoke Stand (i did a lot on the IT side)
Member of school's computer club (made it awesome from crap in 4 years)
Voluntary Work ( 1 month - there a disaster in my country )
Practice soccer at local level
Currently building my own robot
Work Experience - hired many times by companies to code their software
Entrepreneurship - I opened my first company(related to tourism) 6 months ago and am currently making around $300 profit a month. Pretty good for a 18 year old.</p>

<p>P.S I forgot to add the following
I am currently completing my cambridge a-levels ... My forecast expects me to receive 3A* in my main subjects and top scores in my subs ...</p>

<p>I have the following disabilities :
1) Facial Deformation since birth : This is due to to a pre-mature birth and I suffered from severe deformation. My case was featured in several seminars and many world-renowned surgeons are working to make me 100% normal again. However I have already had my share of bullying.
2) Hard Of Hearing : I lost more than 50% of my ability to hear once more due to my ears not developing properly
3) Speaking Deficiency : People can understand me but my pronunciation is not that good
4) Spinal cord problem : Due to genetics
Due to the above problems, I had to face many hardships. Fortunately I managed to deal with them and am leading a much better life right now :)</p>

<p>The lower your grades or SAT scores, the more important ECs will be. What schools are you looking at?</p>

<p>Im not really looking at any specific school at the moment. However I am eventually planning to retake the SAT ,hopefully get a 2000+ and get into cornell. </p>

<p>What I really wanted to know was whether ECs can really overshadow one’s low sat scores such as mine.</p>

<p>Cornell does not look at the writing score, which is you highest section. You’ll really want a 1400/1600 on the SAT and likely a 670+ on CR to place out of the TOEFL requirement. If you can pull that off, you would be likely to get in. </p>

<p>ECs can help a person overcome poor SAT scores if the activities are good enough, but for Ivy League schools it is important to remember that applicants have both good test scores and good ECs. </p>

<p>Chance me back?
