I'm going to Babson College next year, and its in Wellesley also. Are these colleges really close? I hope to see some of you Wellesley girls next year because Babson guy/girl ratio is a little lopsidded (something like 65/35 :( ).

Babson is very close, just a few miles. Much closer than Boston.
I passed a sign pointing to Babson while just a mile or three from Wellesley.

Yes, thankfully Babson is very very close to Wellesley. And I'm THRILLED that they have more guys than girls. Make sure you introduce me to your friends :-P.

I'm not as thrilled that Babson has more guys than girls... but I am thrilled that Wellesley is an all girls college. Do the campuses every do anything together? Or do they just ignore each other and do their own thing? But they are two very different schools in many respects.

Hey, I'm going to Wellesley, and like elizabeth22 (hey girl!) I'm pumped that Babson has more guys than girls.

I don't know a lot of specifics regarding the Babson-Wellesley relationship, but I do know that there is interaction between the two schools.

You might already know this, but there is a Babson-Wellesley exchange, which is something that I will probably look into due to the lack of "business" courses available at Wellesley.

Also, there's this really big dance that Wellesley has in the beginning of the year called Tower Court. My host at Spring Open Campus was telling me that like "truck loads" of guys pour into Wellesley for the event. What surprises her though is that she has no idea how they all find out about it, not that I'm complaining or anything, haha.

As for proximity, they are REALLY close to each other.. I'd say just on opposite sides of the town of Wellesley. Anyways, congrats on your acceptance/decision.. and who knows, maybe we'll all meet up this fall!

Haha, I just saw this thing on princetonreview.com that gave another example of Tower Court:

"...Tower Court (our biggest party of the year, guys come from other schools in U-Hauls)..."

Elizabeth, are you pumped or what!?! :-)

This party sounds like fun already... and I do want to visit Wellesley College. Besides... it is every man's dream to go to an all girls college.

Rovee what part of Washington are you from? I'm from Portland, Oregon.

Haha, this year will definitely be interesting...

You're from Portland?! Cool, way to represent the PNW. I'm from Tacoma, Washington. It's only about 2 hours away, so my family does a lot of weekend trips to Portland. I was actually down there last month to check out UP w/ my friend who was thinking of going. Cute city. :-)

Yes, I'm so psyched about Tower Court Mixer. I bet it'll be awesome.

Tacoma... "The city where everyone gets a speeding ticket." Your police up in Tacoma hand out speeding tickets like they're carnival tickets. Now... I've been through Tacoma at least a dozen times, and have even flown into the SeaTax (or whatever you call it) airport, but I've never actually been in it. I go to Seattle probably once every couple years for some reason or another, but I've never really seen Tacoma. How far is it from Kirland? (I've spent a weekend there) I seriously considered going to UP also... but my parents would have made me commute if I had chosen to attend UP, so I chose Babson :)

I like Portland... but I'm a little sick of it. I can't wait to get out of this Oregon/Washington box.

So is Wellesley a hub for feminists? I don't intend to sound stereotypical, but that is what I hear. Is it true?

LOL. I like that one. Usually we Tacomians get the "Tacoma Aroma" or "Why is Tacoma always on COPS?" rep, but this one is new. Come to think of it, there are a lot of cops on the street, like 24/7, but I'm lucky enough to have not gotten a speeding ticket... yet. Jeeze, I hope I haven't jinxed myself.

Tacoma is.. alright. It really is just mainly residential neighborhoods. A lot of people like to say that it's ghetto (again, back to that COPS thing), but it has its good and bad areas. To get to Kirkland, you'd have to pass through Seattle, so ehh.. maybe around 1 hour. There isn't much to do, unlike Seattle or Portland, so yeah, I'm pretty sick of it too. But it's my home, and I can't help but love it, haha.

UP is a good school, but I know what you mean about not wanting to be forced to commute. Good choice then on Babson! I like how you were deciding between a school that's driving distance away from where you live and a school that's on the other side of the country. It's funny how things work out huh? My choice was ultimately a 3 way between Wellesley, Boston College, and UW. It was a super tough decision, but I'm starting to feel like I made the right one. If anything, I'm with you on the getting out of the PNW bubble. However, and I don't know if its just me being a girl, but I'm really starting to worry about leaving everybody behind. I have no family in New England (we're West Coasters through and through), and all of my friends are here, so it's a little scary. :-/ But! It's Boston! :-)

Wellesley a hub for feminists? I wouldn't say feminists per say, but Wellesley is definitely a hub for hardworking girls with big ambitions. Everyone that goes to Wellesley enters with strong beliefs, and leaves with a better idea of how they are going to put these beliefs into action.

I think I know what you mean by this question though, because I had somewhat of the same "concerns." But when I went to Wellesley's Spring Open Campus, I discovered that Wellesley girls are, well, normal. Normal in the sense that they are the same girls that you're friends with in high school. Wellesley women are smart, mature, funny, super friendly, damn hot! (haha, and slightly arrogant!), and like I said, determined in receiving an amazing education and accomplishing their goals. But, beneath all of that, we are all just regular girls, with regular girly habits and regular girly issues, haha.

Well I hope Wellesley girls are hot. Actually, I may have made it sound like I took UP a lot more seriously then I actually did. Before April rolled around I had wanted to go to UP, but after I received more college decisions I decided not to. I was deciding between UOregon, Emory (Oxford campus)...(I got waitlisted at the main campus :( ) and Babson. Emory Oxford was way to small, but the only reason I considered it was because of their business school. UOregon was cheaper (my parents tried to bribe me by offering to buy me an Audi A4 to go to UO-- so I could visit on weekends), but Babson is an amazing school.

Actually... I'm not all that nervous about leaving the PNW. I've been away from home for longer periods of time... so I know that won't be an issue. However, the only thing that worries me is having a boring freshman year. I'm outgoing and fun, but I'm worried that the work load will impair me from having a lot of fun I could otherwise have if I were somewhere else. But ultimately I know Babson will be an amazing experience.

I'm glad that Wellesley girls are normal. Whats your school mascot?

Our school mascot?? We're the Wellesley Blue!

I'm assuming that you're into business? That's really cool... if I would have gone to UW I would have had the chance to enroll in their business school as a freshman. It was part of this program. I really like business (int'l business and finance), but the closest thing Wellesley has to that is economics and int'l relations, which is what I'm probably going to be majoring in. I do want to go to law school though, and Wellesley will probably offer me the best preparation for that. Even though I'm not yet 100% sure that I made the right decision with Wellesley, but a lot of girls aren't 100% sure about going to an all-girls school, I'm still really pumped about being there this fall.

What's Babson's mascot?

Wellesley Blue What? Is the "Blue" a person or something?

I am very interested in business, and I know for sure that's the direction I will take my life. Specifically, I want to be an entrepreneur and since Babson has been ranked #1 school for entrepreneurship for like 8 years, it is the place to be for future entrepreneurs. I do want to get an MBA five or six years after I graduate... but I'm not sure of this yet.

I have a friend who is going to an all-girls college. She is going to Bryn Mawr. I wouldn't worry too much about Wellesley being an all-girl school because it is near Boston. Boston is the Mecca of college students, so you'll see plenty of guys on the weekends.

We are the Babson Beavers... (I didn't pick it) And I don't the mascott at all. Maybe if I petition it at school next year I could get it changed to something different. Like the Babson Bears or something like that...

Beavers? Like OSU Beavers? Talk about ironic.

Its just Blue, like the color. The Wellesley Blue. Kind of like the Harvard Crimson.

That's cool about your friend. I've always wondered how you'd pronounce Bryn Mawr. Two other girls applied to women's colleges from my school. One of them is going to Spelman in Atlanta.

That's cool that you want to be an entrepreneur. I want to do either corporate law or int'l law.. whatever works out in the end.

A hub for feminists? Nah, not really.

Before Spring Open Campus I was a little worried that it would end up being a bunch of manhating militant feminists. Turns out it's not that way at all- just a bunch of girls who are smart and cool....most of whom are extremely eager to get out into Boston and meet boys on the weekends, and willing to spend the week mainly focusing on their education. In other words, girls who can balance work and play.

Wellesley was originally not a school I was interested in. I applied because there was no application fee if you did it online, and 5 RD schools didn't seem like quite enough. It was #6 out of 7 on my list, but after Dartmouth, Harvard, Tufts, Middlebury, and Brandeis didn't work out (rejections/waitlists), I was left with Wellesley and the University of Maine, the former with a great financial aid package and the second with a full scholarship. I was totally unenthusiastic about both at first, but after a while I got over the fact that Wellesley is all girls, and realized just how great an opportunity it was. I've now met a lot of Wellesley girls, and they seem very normal for the most part- a lot like my female friends at home.

So, long answer to a short question. I think you'll like Wellesley girls.

I like to think that Babson Beavers are of a different breed. Babson beavers are unique, smart, and entreprenurial. Versus the OSU beavers who are orange, fat, and worse than the U of O ducks (No offense to any OSU student...)

I only applied to seven schools, which may seem like a lot, but it wasn't really. If I were to go through the college admissions schools I would apply to more reaches (Wharton, Stern, Tepper etc.), just to see if I would have gotten accepted to any of them.

Elizabeth, its kind of funny the way things work out sometimes... you don't get accepted to Brandeis but you get accepted to Wellesley with a great fin. aid package.

I'm sure you will have a blast at Wellesley... good luck next year!

Lol... both of you brag that Wellesley girls are hot. I hope you're right!

Haha.. well its true. Don't you think Elizabeth?? ;-)

Yeah, I think I would have applied to more reaches too. You never know right? I know that this girl at my school applied to like 15 schools, including most of the ivies, and she got in at Dartmouth and Brown. She's going to Dartmouth.

Buttt... I'm pretty satisfied with my college application experience. I just wish I could go to multiple schools.. that would have been great, lol. I suck at making decisions, especially when I like all of the options.

Good luck w/ Babson! It definitely seems like a school that people who have a good idea of what they want to do go to. Plus, #1 in entrepreneurship... that's hot.

Elizabeth, I think I had pretty much the same experience in deciding on Wellesley. I was rejected to my top schools (Yale and William and Mary) and decided against Allegheny and SUNY-Geneseo which left me with Wellesley and the UMaine Honors Program. At first I really wasn't sure that I wanted to go to an all-girls school. But after visiting the school I became pretty excited about it. The girls all seemed so nice and just... normal, I guess! lol

By the way, what part of Maine are you from? I'm from the Bangor area.
