I am a mediocre-at-best writer with a weighted gpa pf 3.9. if I have a perfect score on SAT CR and Math as well as SAT2 Math2 and Physics, do i have any chance of getting into the university of Pennsylvania? preferably wharton

obviously you have a chance, a reasonably high one for upenn/wharton at that. . .probably 50% at upenn, 30% at wharton. I would warn you though, the perfect sat is not going to “go” that far if you’re only a mediocre-at-best writer. if you’re interested in quant related finance you might check out engineering schools, mit, caltech, which will be less concerned with your verbal deficiencies.

In addition to this, you can think about hiring a writing tutor/ essay editing service that is aimed at people applying to college. I know that a number of such places exist (********* betteredit, and gurufi come to mind off the top of my head) and have heard that despite being expensive, they really do help.

I know a little bit about this, so feel free to pm me if your interested in such things.

a 2400 will not get you in to wharton. they don’t weight scores as heavily as other elites like dartmouth and princeton.

What’s your class rank and have you taken the most demanding schedule? A perfect score with a just top 10% rank might get you into Penn but for Wharton you need to be very near top of class.

Not correct.

^ Well you know that Princeton loves the 2400. And Dartmouth weighs scores fairly heavily as well. I haven’t talked to everybody who reviews Wharton apps, though I’ve spoken to two, and they made it clear that they’re looking for a specific sort of personality rather than absolute academic perfection. Penn is definitely big on class rank, but I still maintain that stats alone don’t get you in to wharton.

I think penn is a lot easier to get in than people believe–obviously ivies are a crapshoot for nearly everyone, but w/ a 2400 even if you look pretty typical, are an orm, etc. if you applied to every ivy you’d prob get in 2-3.

I didn’t say stats alone Will get you into Wharton, indeed they won’t. And I don’t at all disagree there are many factors that influence getting into Wharton.

What is not true is that:
.
They absolutely do. Wharton wants it all. I’ve worked as an adcom for the school and have interviewed as an alum for 30 years–trust me, scores are VERY important.

^ I’ll yield to you on that point. and I’m glad to hear it(even though it makes me wrong) because I pulled some high scores last year :)
