How far would I have to run to get from one class to another?

My computer class, at Siebel Center, ends at 10:50.
My Abstract Linear Algebra class starts at 11:00.

Here's the thing, this will be my first semester and I have no idea where my algebra class will be taking place. On schedule, the location says "1AH 341", and I'm guessing it's the building with the old tower where math library is?

In any case, I am worried that it will take way more than 10 minutes to get from one class to another. You think it will be a problem for me? Cuz I really want to take that algebra class this Fall.

yeah that building is one with the bell tower. altgeld hall. I think the walk from siebel to altgeld could be done in 10 min somewhat comfortably.

good luck with your linear algebra class. math 416 rules. if you are a freshman, you must have some math chops.

I was wondering this too. I have PS 100 at the National Soybean RC, then Chem 202 in the Noyes Lab. Will I have to run or can this be done easily? On google it looks pretty far.

Guys, a map of the uiuc campus is available online. Creating a schedule involves the dimensions of both time and space. When creating a schedule, you need to have four items in front of you: (1) credit already received through ACT/SAT, AP tests, proficiency tests, IB, transfer credit, or actual courses taken at UIUC), (2) Degree Requirements for the degree that you are pursuing, (3) a grid with the days of the week laid out horizontally, and the hours of the day laid out vertically, and (4) a map of the campus with the buildings identified.

If you create your schedule without a map, and then try to determine whether or not you can make it from one class to another on time, you’re asking for trouble.

I think you can do it in 10 mins, especially once you find some short cuts.
It doesn’t really matter if you miss out the last bit of the first bit of a big lecture though.

1AH 341 is Altgeld Hall, room 341. You’re right, it’s the building with the bell tower. The walk from Siebel to Altgeld should be right around 10 minutes at a decent pace, so you should be good. Since you won’t have much time to find your class after walking from Siebel, I would definitely recommend scoping out the room that your math class is in before the first day of class, because Altgeld is a very confusing building (as a math major, I still get lost in it sometimes).

As a side note, I just took Math 416 in the spring, and it was a great class! However, if you aren’t completely comfortable with basic techniques of proof (direct, contrapositive, contradiction, induction), I would definitely suggest taking Math 347 before 416. It’s not an official prerequisite, but I personally think it should be. The proof skills covered in Math 347 will help you much more in 416 than any of the required calculus prerequisites will (we hardly used calculus at all in 416).
