How fast can I change a major at UT austin?

Okay, so as of right now, i am thinking about applying to UT austin with an undeclared liberal arts major...and then I get my admission letter. How fast can i change my Major choice? If i know what i want to major in specifically before August, Can I call in and switch? or is that not possible, and I HAVE to stay with the Undeclared liberal arts choice?

all you have to do is talk to your advisor BEFORE your orientation, this way they can tell you what to do and you can apply for a major transfer at orientation before you sign up for classes.

this only works for Liberal arts school, and maybe natural science. if you’re looking for business or engineering, you have to wait until spring semester where you are concurrently taking 24hrs at UT including fall semester

I agree. ^^^
Switching your major to any major in Liberal Arts will be very very easy.
Switching your major to any major in Natural Sciences will be easy.
I do not think it is very hard to switch into geosciences or social work or teaching.
(I don’t know how hard it is to switch into communications.)
It takes completed credits with good grades to apply to switch into business or engineering.

^^^From what I understand, there is a process with transferring into communications also…similiar to business and engineering.

Is it hard to change majors from Psychology BS in COLA to Biology in CONS? Someone answer me please  I haven’t attended orientation yet!

At orientation, register for the classes a first year bio major would take and ask your advisor or the bio dept undergraduate advisor how to officially switch into CNS.

Switching into communications takes an semester-long application process as well. There are some requirements to certain majors in the comm school. For example, prospective advertising majors (internal transfer) must take ADV 318J before admissions will even look at your application, and all advertising majors must take that class with at least a B to remain in advertising. The required gpa to transfer into comm school is 2.25.

Changing your major WITHIN liberal arts is really easy. You just declare it online (with a min of 30 hours) and if you feel like changing it, you can go to GEB 2.200 and talk to the office people there. Takes about 10 minutes to do. I think this applies to all liberal art majors EXCEPT for Psychology because that one is so popular.

hey, i am currently a senior who got in undeclared at ut (rejected by engineering, but still accepted to ut), can i switch into computer science? im top 8% with 31 act and the hardest math/science curriculum my school has to offer.

How about transferring from ECE at Cockrell to Computer Science at the College of Natural Sciences?

What if I want to transfer from the School of Social Work into COLA Economics? Is this an easy process?

The transfer process from any school to any other school at UT is easy. Getting admitted is harder.

so I got in to UT for economics at COLA can I switch to a BBA in finance at McCombs

Yes, you can switch to any of the colleges at UT. However, different schools have different requirement. The schools with more demand such as the engineering school (cockrell), business, geoscience, architecture, and communication are much harder to transfer in, especially architecture (since they have a small student population due to resources they need).

It really depends on how many college credits you have before you enter the university.
I know for example, my friend who has a buttload of college credits from AP and community college transferred into cockrell after 2 weeks of being in the school of Undergraduate studies. Having said that, he had a stellar academic record and such. However, don’t be discouraged if you did not get into the school you want as first, college is about finding your niche!

I highly recommend you surf around the different colleges for specific personal preference but I can say that transferring into the college of liberal arts and college of natural science (IN GENERAL) is very easy, like you have to fill up a form, talk to an adviser, and then you are done.

I got into UT for undeclared major for liberal arts, but I want to switch to pre-pharm at the college of natural sciences. Based on earlier comments, can I just call my advisor before orientation and switch? Is it really that simple?

Check their website. I thought when they put the announcement out when results were being released they stated a change that you had to wait one year before any transfers. New this year.
