How fast can you read and type?

Reading: 491 WPM
I read pretty fast mainly due to the fact that every night (I mean EVERY night no matter the circumstances) I read at least a few pages before I go to sleep.

I started the same thread some time ago and oh man, I've been really dissappointed with my speed reading endeavour since then. It is increasing by about 50-75 words only if I stress myself and generate a sense of urgency. And when I read the same thing casually i take a longer time. I am in the same boat with all of those whose speed is 225-275. I am tryin to develop greater peripheral vision but can only see about 2 words in one fixation. And comprehenson, well it's a whole new thing.

Balmes Pavlov: I bet English is your second language. But you seem to have developed satisfactorily. 390 is not bad actually, it lies in the range of collegebound students(350-400).

Actually it is my second language. Just curious to know, how'd you guess that?

Well, as a computer fanatic...

I ranged anywhere from 118.7 wpm perfectly 130.99 wpm with 1 mistake to 168.2 wpm with 3 mistakes.

My reading speeds aren't that great unfortunately...

250-300 if I'm trying to understand some fairly involved text, 125-175 if I'm trying to fully understand things like philosophy or advanced literature, up to 350 speed reading

With 1 mistake:

91.98 WPM

i tried typing but it is difficult to do without making mistakes with me sitting on my bed with a laptop. lol. but generally i get 80-100 wpm and i read a novel anywhere from 200-600 wpm depending on the part of the novel.

i start my reading and comprehension class on monday!!! i hope it helps out, because extra time freshman year would definately be nice.

im sure ill post back here after a few classes...

116 wpm (1 mistake)...on a laptop though. Maybe try later on my desktop if I have time.

138WPM 0 mistakes.

I don't type properly. I type with the right fingers for my left hand only but use only my pointer finger on my right hand. I can't deal with proper typing.

127.35 wpm 0 mistakes. I think this is because this computer is slow in loading the words onto the screen.

I think when I tested myself I was about 600wpm and later around 800wpm but comprehension was horrible. I think I usually read at maybe 400-500 wpm if it is interesting.

I'm at 96 WPM on a laptop, but I'm so used to double-spacing after each sentence that it slows me down to do a single.

I do exactly the same thing but backwards! Are you a righty or a lefty? Whatever works, right?

So, Balmes Pavlov, seems like i am taking the exact same speed reading course you are...last night was my first class, and the methods are exactly like those you described (same names, comprehension scale, methods, etc).

after only one class i brought my reading speed from a 308 wmp (comp. 5) to 390 wmp (comp. 4). comprehension has gone down slightly, but with time i assume that will get back to normal, just because i will prob get used to it.

random question Balmes Pavlov, did you also have to read that book about Dobs? kind of weird, not my typical read but whatever.

I think the world record on a qwerty is 158 so...

yup I think it's the same class. where are you taking it? the book was Dibs by the way. I'm guessing that was a typo.

I'm actually got up to 460 with pretty good comprehension but I slacked off a bit by not practicing much this week so I'm still reading in the early 300s.

94.15 WPM with 1 mistake.

typing: 87wpm 11 mistakes on a laptop keyboard ugh

reading (we did this all through AP lit: 700 - 1000 wpm)

138 WPA 0 mistakes

Reading: Around 500-600 WPM on Angels & Demons.

I bet my comprehension isn't that great though . . . I'm more of a "non-fiction" reader, and don't remember hardly any descritions or small details. I can't remember if I've ever known what color hair any main character has ever had, for example :)

I remember reading A Critique of Pure Reason and spending 5-15 minutes per page. I wonder what that averages out to :)

Jeez! upto 460 from 250s in 2 weeks that too for a non native speaker, is that an exponential growth or what?
I am still lingering in the early 300s. But it is increasing, slowly but surely.

typing 231.75 wpm with 1006.15 cpm

beat that lol
