How fast can you type?

College folks - how fast can you type that paper or report? I'm trying to find out what the average typing speed is for the average computer-familiar college kid. Are there any people in college who are typing one letter at a time/really slow?

i type around 30-40 words per minute.....i don't know if that speed is good/avg/bad...care to tell??

30-40 sounds good to me :) I think 150 wpm is the maximum for human beings, and I think 70 wmp is superb for a student, but I'm not sure... which is why I'm asking.

I'm around 40 right now, but right after I took a keyboarding class (four years ago) i was at around 65.

80+ WPM if I know what I am typing. I was about to enter the career field of Information Technology but I had an internship and realized that the just blows.

Also, my job requires a lot of data entry and I headed a school project that allow students to get a little credit for reaching a certain typing speed.

how do you find out how many words per minute you can type? Just time yourself? Anyone know a website that can tell you?

<a href="http://www.learn2type.com%5B/url%5D">www.learn2type.com</a>
<a href="http://www.typingmaster.com%5B/url%5D">www.typingmaster.com</a></p>

Learn 2 Type only takes away WPM for errors made after you submit.

i was 30 WPM. I consider myself a pretty slow typer

I'm a pretty consistent 70wpm, 90+ if I cut my nails:)

I type exceptionally fast, as long as I am not trying to make a copy like all those online tests. If the information is coming stright from my head then I type up around 70. I do tend to make a lot of errors (well not a lot, but there will be typo's) however typically I can catch them and fix them without losing much time.

I type around 50 wpm.

i can type around 80 or 90 pretty consistantly. my best five scores on that learn2type site averaged together were 97.

Around 65-70 when I don't have to type numbers. For some reason I've never learned to type numbers without looking :-(

With errors I only averaged 43 on 5 tries on the learn2type website. Not being able to spell doesn't help too much. Without errors I was up at almost 70..

I got 83 WPM on the test all four times i tried it, so i guess i'm pretty consistent xP.. AIM really helps you improve your typing speed haha

Around 70 wpm according to the online test.

According to the online test about 75 words per minute, but that's on my laptop. I got a lot of practice typing in 4th grade because I was pretty advanced for my age, so the teacher had me type up her stuff in the back while she taught all of the other kids stuff that I already knew.

i can type around 100 wpm with no mistakes, around ~110+ if 2 or 3 mistakes per minute.

it's above average I guess. all my speed comes from 6 years of AIM usage and intense online gaming, heh.

^same. I get around 100-110 wpm consistently (with few errors), but I'm in high school. dunno how I got so fast. I spend a lot of time on the computer though.

80 wpm for me.
