I applied to UCLA as a comm major and had all my pre-reqs finished at Santa Monica College. Everything was going pretty good until I was forced to move back to my home state of Illinois for an illness in the family, which made me unable to complete, or even begin my Spring classes. I knew because of this I wouldn't be accepted so I didn't bother even updating UCLA. Well fast forward last night when I received my acceptance notice online. I already sent them my explanation as to why I didn't complete the courses so now im just waiting.

Has anyone else ever heard of a person in this situation? What was his/her fate? Im definitely not looking forward to their answer. The classes I was to take weren't really big or anything but im short 60 units and I feel the incomplete IGETC will be the kiss of death.

doesnt matter what excuse u give them…ur rescinded forsure~ happened to me last year…Don’t worry too much, life moves on and you probably have sth better in store for you…also takes about 2 weeks for them to change ur status

That’s what I figured. Im actually not as mad as I thought I would be. I mean sure it sucks, but like you said life moves on. On the flip side im sure they have already mailed the letter so I can always show it off to my friends and tell them I turned down UCLA ;)

Speaking from a former UCSB rescinded student, UC’s will be quick to rid you of your admissions offer is anything goes a-rye in your final semester (or quarter).

Personally, I think what will get you rescinded is the lack of 60 units. That is EXTREMELY important. UCs (especially Berkeley, LA and SD) will not budge an inch on that. The IGETC may or may not.

If dropping caused you to only miss courses that were not required for your major, that would not have affected you at all.
