I am just horrible at writing formally. I always need to be a bit quirky or humorous, but I also want to get into college. So.

I think that’s fine as long as you don’t overdo it. Mine was a bit humorous and very quirky, although the writing itself was formal-ish.

Quirky and humorous is fine, as long as you keep it to a level that would be enjoyably readable by an adult of any age.
Good luck!

I would say it has to have the following:
- Logic that anyone reading it could follow. No problem with quirky IF it would make sense to anyone reading.
- No typos, avoid run-on sentences, appropriate paragraph breaks, etc.
- Don’t swear.
- General recommendation is to avoid controversial topics. Note that many teenagers are not good judges of what is a controversial topic. Avoid sex, drinking, drug use, cheating like the plague. If you write about some kind of adversity in your life, it probably (1) should not be self caused, and (2) you should have overcome it/learned from it.

Have an adult you trust review your essays and provide comments. This is not advice specific to you, it is for any student.
