How formal should my video response be?

I already submitted my application for CMC under ED plan. Currently, I am working on my video supplement. I got the elevator prompt, and I hope current CMCians who submitted the video response can tell me how formal should it be? I mean does the fact that they choose an elevator shows it would better be a casual chit-chat mentioning some shallow facts about me how it fits CMC in a funny way? or is it ok to make it more formal, mentioning my deep passion for something or my future goals and missions, and sum up my application?

Thanks

I think you should be trying to show something that isn’t in your application already. But that’s just my opinion.

My video was pretty bad because it took me forever to make a video that I liked lol. I tried to make it really laid back though. Good luck!

The video is an optional supplement that is emphasized for those who did not have a chance to interview. I interviewed and did not submit a video. Based on that, I think, if you’re really at a stump for ideas, say what you would at an interview. Have a conversation with the camera about what you have done, what you like about CMC, what you hope to do. However, I agree with a previous commentor that you should try to talk about things you haven’t mentioned in your application.

There are three people I am really good friends with who are also applying to CMC from my school.

We all took the very casual route.

We had a 30 second monologue at the end explaining why we are good fits, but most of it was short clips of us just being ourselves. All of us did the same format.

For example, one of my friends hula hoops, dives (she’s on the team), intentionally falls from a climbing wall like 15 feet (she’s a climber), puts a Hillary sticker on a door (she was on the campaign), eats a pancake, hugs a few people, dances a little bit. A different one of my friends and I both play instruments, so we played our own background music (and said we did so at the end).

We took it to mean “Why should you stand out?”, so we showed that we are real people.

My D filmed hers in an elevator. She played a cmc admissions officer and various people got in the elevator and started talking about her qualities-she had a friend talk about her personal attributes, a coach talk about her leadership, and someone talk about her academic achievements.
