Like, what is the average amount of aid every other student gets? I haven't received an admissions decision yet, but I was wondering about the costs and such since I will be coming from out of state.

Are you applying for fall2012 or spring???

I’m admitted as a spring '12 transfer. I want to know this as well.

Hi jessicaayre,

I transferred to the U of M last Spring. This is what I recieved for my financial aid:

Ford Sub Loan: $3000

Ford Unsub Loan $1800

MN State Grant: $1500

UPromise Scholarship: $625

Work Study: $3000 (I am not sure on this number)

The rest was covered through a SELF Loan (Requires a Cosign). I am an instate student so you will not get the MN State Grant, unfortunately. Let me know if you have anymore questions about the U of M.

wth. there is no way on earth that I’m taking a 3, 000 loan out with the money that i make. did you file by yourself as independent? what does your yearly salary look like?

You will get a decent package, with the bulk of it being loans instead of straight up grants. Also, you don’t have to actually accept each award offered, just pick and choose the ones you want to commit to. Like my financial aid package actually offered me more than the tuition was, so I declined some loans and just stuck with grants/scholarships.

@jeremmed: If you don’t mind me asking, what is your EFC? because everyone’s financial aid package will be different b/c it’s based off of ur EFC. My EFC=0 so I would probably receive the maximum amt available (I’m also in-state).

@Eastafro- same, my EFC=0 Lol. We’re dirt poor & I’ve been receiving full pell grant at my community college.

I don’t want to be at a disadvantage and take out $3,000 loan just for ONE semester. I’m also out-of-state, so…
