How generous is with GW?? >_>

I am just wondering if they give good financial aid packages. Since it is one of the most expensive colleges, you would expect generosity...
Any input on this is appreciated =]

They better be generous, the school is expensive as crap!

**How generous is GW with financial aid??

^agreed

Very -- I know of a number of students who have been granted full rides. A lot of federal aid is awarded. Merit aid is limited to academically superior students in the acceptance pool (top 10% of all accepted students I would assume).

They did away with a lot of merit aid this year to focus more on need based aid...who knows?

yeah, I got bored and read through one of the GWU pamplets and I kinda tried to figure out a rough estimate of the need based FA with the stats they gave.

2350 freshman, 50% freshman getting aid, 22 million purely for freshmen, ~ $18,000 per student.

and I heard a current GWU student say that they were being more generous this year with FA due to the financial crisis going on...

so, lets say my EFC was 0, and now one of my parents was laid off on top of that, would I get almost full need met?

My stats aren't uber (1960 sats, 3.6 gpa, diverse ec's)

I think you will do well with finaid but most likely have some loans in there.

If your EFC was 0, you can expect a very, very hefty grant from GW. The rest will be covered by federal loans- I really doubt that you would have anything not covered by fin aid. your HS grades/stats do not impact your need-based aid at all, so no worries about that. If your parents were laid off this year, it won't be reported on your taxes, but you can file a "special circumstance" form and they might grant you more aid.

I got $5500 in loans, $13450 in grants, $2200 in work study, and $30750 in scholarships 0.0

The total is almost $52,000. So uhm...yeah, I think I got a pretty good deal...O.O

If the COA is $52,000, then she will graduate $22k in debt. I think that's a pretty darn good financial aid package! So it IS possible. I have an EFC of 0. George Washington is downsizing their merit-aid and augmenting their need-aid as we speak. So, you and I are (hopefully) quite likely to get a ton of money. For reference purposes, I'm at the high end of the average scores for GWU.

They are very generous!! I think I got a good deal!!
Good luck to everyone else!!
