I am just wondering if there is even a hope of going there soley on merit... i have a 1510, 4.0 wieghted (i hope they use wieghted.. otherwise its 3.9), solid SAT IIs (710-740 for all), decent ECs, great recs, great essays, good awards.. did common app, regular. Is there a chance for aid? please? haha

It depends on what school you're shooting for. I think each school has a Scholars group that you are considered for automatically. (IE: Your college application materials are used to get you into the Scholars group, but other people can apply later based on their NYU GPA.) These typically award around $10-15K in scholarship.

The only merit-based full scholarship I know of is the CAS Presidential Scholarship, which is renewable for all four years. A friend of mine was admitted to this program and went down to NYU for a weekend; I'm not sure if it was just a "bonding" experience or if it was to interview the students to narrow down the pool.

I have no ability to actually evaluate your exact chances, but I assume with a 1500+ SAT you have a pretty good shot. In the Stern Scholars group, most people had SAT scores at least in the high 1400s (assuming that the rest of their stats were on par). I guess your best way to find out is apply and see what financial aid package is given to you. One other thing though: I hear that outside Scholars groups, NYU is pretty stingy with financial aid. Good luck :-)

i got stern scholar, #20k... had 1520 sats and 3.9 gpa.

yeah i applied CAS. I've also won an award for an essay and been published.

Caromage, what were your friend's stats who got the CAS Presidential Scholarship? I'm just wondering around what is required to be admitted to this program. Thanks. :)

I got a nice Tisch trustee scholarship...jk lol 1000

haha do you find out about finaid in april?

I only had a 3.75 gpa (weighted) and a 1460 on the SAT's and I got a $20,000 scholarship to CAS.

was this for early?

calihopeful- is that per year?

I had a 3.7 weighted, 1500 and got around 15-20 k as well i think 16k or 18k or something per year

ahh 4.0, 1500.... i have a shot?

I think overall, if you're not a URM or didn't apply ED, your stats have to be pretty impressive to get non-need based aid, like damn close to perfect. Its NYU's policy to give scholarship preference to ED students.

Do I have a shot at anything from Stern with a 1470, 4.63 weighted GPA? (although my GPA is going down senior year :( )

I didn't get in yet tho.

will they tell you about aid in april if we applied reg?

If you get in, I think you find out about financial aid stuff along with the admission decision. So yes, it would be in April.

jwblue, will i get any new aid besides the 20k schoalrship i got after i submit my fafsa, or is the ED estimate all i get?

Matt,

I'm not too sure about your question. I'm assuming the 20K scholarship was ALL non-need based and didn't include what you should get based on your parents income--if it was such, then logically you should get whatever additional need based aid you qualify for. I'm not an expert on this finanaid stuff, so you may want to check with the school.

Good luck.

it said the scholarship was based on both need and merit, but it was the only non-loan financial aid i got, and my parents income is very low.
