How good do you have to be to be recruited for soccer at HYS?

Soccer is a big passion of mine, and would like to spend the most time on it. My second dream and possible goal if it goes well (other than getting into HYPS) is to play professional soccer if possible (though that’s probably near to impossible for me) if I can play for a college and get good enough. The question is how good do you have to be actually recruited to get into a school like Harvard, Yale or Stanford? I know you have to be extremely talented and atleast in some sort of a elite team. I’m not a superstar or in any national teams or even the school team (next year) in any way but I’m extremely determined and will practice everyday if I have to be the best possible. If I can’t get recruited would doing only soccer and medical (career oriented) activities help ? These two things are my biggest interests and want to spend the most time doing.

Look at the player bios on the websites for the soccer teams at HYPS. You will see that most of the kids played Development Academy (DA) level soccer (or DA or ECNL for girls). Many of the players did not play for their high school teams at all because high school play is not allowed by DA rules.

If you are not a starter on a DA/ECNL team, the chances of being recruited to a HYPS are low unless your club team is competitive at the national level (i.e. playing in USYS National League). It is not impossible to be recruited from a weaker club/team, but the odds are much much longer.
