How good does a self-studied ap look

Im just wondering, relatively of course, how valuable a self-studied ap is worth in college admissions.

For example, I am taking the Calculus BC AP exam and am currently in pre-calculus (school did not let me skip); suppose i get a five - what is its value?

it isnt really valuable. its a plus, but it wont be the difference between a rejection or an acceptance.

for me it's just to save some money, so i don't have to waste my time in college.

you shouldn't self study APs for what they can do for your app...rather you should self study something you like to learn morea bout.

Well said piccolo, for only then will you enjoy and do your very best on the exam without getting a cuckoo. But anyway, its a good idea to self-study for Calc BC anyhow, since your going to have to take Calc AB in school from the looks of it, and since Calc AB and BC cover a lot of different topics. But are you planning on majoring in something math-related? Because only then do I truly think the self-studied AP would look impressive rather than pretentious to colleges.

I am mostly doing it for the learning experience; it was only recently that I decided to actually take the BC test.

It's good if your school doesn't offer too many AP's. But if your school already offers like 5 AP Sciences don't try to self study the other one just for credit. or anything.

Yeah, especially if you're not going to be studying it extensively in college. Because then the colleges will just see you as a bratty kid who does not really have an aptitude for learning, but rather for just getting good grades--which is not going to help in college or in life thereafter.
