How good does an AP Foreign Language look on a transcript?

I signed up to take AP French next year, along with World Religions and a philosophy course. I'm planning to major in philosophy and I'm very interested in World Religions, not to mention everyone I know who's taken it said it's amazing and I like the teacher.

But I have to drop one of these classes and take something else. I want to take them all of course, but I probably want to take AP French the least. In it's place I would take another AP class, so my number of APs next year would not change.

Would having it on my transcript have any impact on the admissions process, or is it just another AP course?

Thanks for your time and help.

It would make a difference when you have two to three AP classes on your transcript. If you have more than four AP classes. It is just going to be another AP classes to the college. Have that said, if AP French is relevant to the major you are interested in. It will help in some way.

Would colleges value taking AP French as a class the same as self-studying AP French and taking the exam? (non-native speaker)

I think self studying shows more initiative, but I don’t think they will see a huge difference between taking an ap class + exam or just taking the exam.

If I don’t take the class, can I still take the AP Test? I self-study French.

Yes, College Board specifically states that AP classes are not prerequisites for AP exams.

curious, you interested in religion but you want to major in philosophy? those two nearly contradict each other. One tells you how to think and what to believe, the other makes you question about life and in some cases, if we really even exist.

Could you take a French class at a community college so you can take all your classes without cutting one? Otherwise there are lots of websites in French you can use. If you have satellite tv there are stations from France you could watch to help you. We don’t have cable or satellite (watch no television), but a good friend of the family is from France and she watches French tv with her satellite tv system. If your family has satellite radio, there are Canadian stations on XM to help you too.

Bonne Chance a toi! :)

itry, taking a World Religions class makes one a non-thinking religious zealot no more than taking a Political Science class makes one a back-stabbing liar, or taking a Quantum Physics class enables one to manipulate space and time. It’s called education. Look into it.
