How good does improvement look?

I've always struggled with taking the SAT more than twice because it seems like anything past that makes colleges throw up a small red flag... I know that i am probalby talking to a somewhat bais'd group considering that most of you, from the sounds of it, have already taken at least twice already but anyway my score progression is:

01/2009
-CR: 610/Math: 800/Writing: 570(7) -- total: 1980

06/2009
-CR: 720/Math: 690/Writing: 640(8) -- total: 2050

12/2009
-CR: 700/Math: 770/Writing: 720(9) -- total: 2190

Superscore
-CR: 720/Math: 800/Writing: 720(9) -- total: 2240

**note each test is roughly 5 months apart...

I suppose i am happy that i took it because everything seems to improve linearly (writing, total score) and my "bad" scores (690 math, 610 CR) are offset by two "good" scores which i would like to think implies that the "bad" scores were sort of a fluke...

but anyway back to the topic at hand, most of the colleges i am applying to Strongly Recommend or Require that all scores be sent, and while they state that their official policy is to judge you based on your superscore i cant help but think that it is simply a way to inflate their admissions statistics, and while i dont mean to say that the admissions comittie doesn't look at the superscore; they ask for all scores for a reason, so it cant be ALL they consider...

So how much of a boon is the almost linear improvement for me? how much does the fact that my score is the product of 3 retakes hurt me?

Please note:
-I am applying to top tier schools- Ivy's/MIT/Caltech/Stanford - so if any insight could be geared towards the practices of schools of that caliber, it would be greatly appreciated
-I am not asking whether or not I should apply to ^^ schools... I realize that my superscore is below the average for those schools, let alone my individual tests, so yea--this isnt a chance thread, please respond accordingly

I just want to know how the fact that i took the test 3 times will effect (affect? lol) my score...

…anyone?

this isnt freaking struggling

im a senior

with a 600 cr 600 math 700 writing
and im taking the sat for the last time in january 23th about a month from today

can u freaking help me nitro hawk

I wouldn’t say your superscore is below the average… typically the range is high 600’s-800

But at any rate, if they say they only pay attention to your highest in each section (superscore), I’d assume it means just that, and they pay no mind to the other scores.

since you did improve over each time, it won’t hurt you, at least. although I must admit that taking it four times might look kind of excessive to some colleges…
in general though improvement is given tons of worth. personal case- I went from a 2100ish to a 2390 and sent both scores to one of my top colleges and got in. I’m sure the first score didn’t help me, but the improvement to the second one did :)

I dont plan on taking it again, at least for college application purposes (I know if I did more then a 1 week long cram before the test that i could crack 2300 with at least my superscore if not in a single sitting, so ive been rolling the idea of taking the test one last time for presonal pride reasons, but that has no bearing on my college apps…)

3 times almost seems excessive to me.
