Hi! I was just browsing through some of these threads looking at people's stats noticing how high (in my opinion) their GPA's are. My GPA's only like a 3.04! uw and i was just thinking about how unfortunate I would be in terms of admission into UVA because of my GPA. Looking through these threads it seems as if SAT scores are what people worry about and a high GPA is just expected out of anyone who wishes to be competitive. I dont think I'm lazy or stupid, but I'm sure that if I were to look at my GPA from the Point-Of-View of an average CC user I would think that about myself. I'm just hoping my low GPA is a result of my school's difficulty. What are my chances at UVA?

they also care more that you take hard classes. if you have a 4.0 and you've never taken an honors course, who cares. and you're only a soph you have lots of time to bring it up!

For UW its
A 4.0
A- 3.7
B+ 3.3
B 3.0
B- 2.7
C+ 2.3
C 2.0 ..........
For Weighted GPA take the numbers above and keep it the same for curriculum 2 scale, add .5 to Curriculum scale, and add 1.0 to honors or AP scale.

an A in honors/AP is 5.0
A in Curric I is 4.5
A in Curric II is 4.0

Being black helps a lot definitely- especially if you're instate. Out of state, don't be so certain. Try hard to raise your GPA, a 3.04 makes it very questionable if you will get in.

yea...i forgot about that...being black with will help but since you are out of state not as much as being instate but still u can get in if u sell urself...its not all about numbers

well according to the information of collegeboard.com

83% had h.s. GPA of 3.75 and higher
11% had h.s. GPA between 3.5 and 3.74
4% had h.s. GPA between 3.25 and 3.49
1% had h.s. GPA between 3.0 and 3.24
1% had h.s. GPA between 2.5 and 2.99

not sure if that's weighted or unweighted though

Dang. Your grading scale is easy o.O

4.0 - A
3.5 - B+
3.0 - B
2.5 - C+
2.0 - C
...
Plus, only +0.5 per AP
Honors and any other courses don't matter SQUAT.

So, a 3.04 GPA on that scale isn't good. And, your 3.8 is severely bloated.

A girl from my school probably had a 4.0GPA, and even with all the xtra stuff, she got 4.150 as a final GPA.
And, she took like Six APs Senior Year, Four APs Junior Year, and a bunch of honors courses and etc.
In-State, and Admitted w/ Echols but she didn't apply Early.

In an honest opinion, GPA is a heavy focus for UVA.
This year, my friend got a 3.8GPA and took 6 AP courses Senior Year and got waitlisted, and had your SAT Score (comparable)
Me, I had 3.95 w/ 4 APs (+2) and a lower SAT Score, and still got in.
Another friend, 3.85GPA w/ 5 APs (+1) and a lower SAT Score, and still got in.
And that is just In-State, unless OOS is differently measured.

3.8, 4.15, it really doesn't matter other than how that stacks you up against the rest of your class.

However, regarding the difficulty of your classes it can't be much worse than most other schools. You're in 'honors' classes. Unless that means AP or IB or Gov School or whatever, those are fairly easy classes compared to what a great deal of UVA applicants take. Even if they are advanced classes, there aren't too many schools where the teachers actually make the class difficult to the point where it's noticeably harder than in other schools.
