Hi all, I would like to know how good is buffalo state college for applied and computational mathematics program -- the link is here http://suny.buffalostate.edu/programs?bpid=514

The program seems quite innovative in design and applied in nature. I am an international student and appreciate your reviews and chances of getting employed post education. (based on previous posts buff state is not so good is what I hear)

Are you sure it’s Buffalo State college ? All I’d say is it’s just a tier above those community colleges. No offence intended but it has a poor reputation. Well, poor reputation doesn’t reflect bad teaching of course, but if you have other options let go this one. SIMPLY MY OPINION

Hi Rezimitpo,
I’m about to graduate from the Master’s in Professional Applied and Computational Mathematics (PACM) at SUNY College at Buffalo (Buffalo State College). I am from Venezuela and as an international student I can tell you that this program has met all of my expectations. The quality of the courses is very high and the professors are all highly qualified. They also keep improving the curriculum (courses).

This program is not for everybody though, if you are an independent student who is very comfortable using computers or if you are willing to learn how to use different software and tools then you might love this.

We have courses in statistics, financial mathematics, optimization and other applied fields as well as business related courses like project management. In all of the courses we used computer software like SAS, SPSS, MS Excel, Mathematica, etc.

When you ask about employment post education, are you interested in employment here in the US or back in India? The PACM program is in fact very innovative and one of its graduation requirements is that you do an internship which can certainly get you some options for future employment. Right now I’m looking for a permanent job here and to be honest it is not easy as an F-1 visa holder but it is possible. If you plan to go back and find employment in India I’m sure your Master’s degree will help you.

If you want more information about the program, courses, internships, careers, and more visit the PACM’s website: http://pacm.buffalostate.edu/
You can also message me if you have any other questions.
I hope this helps.
