How good is Cornell CALS Undergraduate Business (Applied Economics)...

It is Ranked 8 in Business Week

It is Ranked 10 in US News Report

Is it still a good school? I want to apply here, but I wish it scored higher so I would feel better applying here.

obviously you don’t have your priorities straight in finding the right school. the acceptance rate was 11% overall last year. does that make you feel better?

Lol Forbes ranked the entire university like #250 or something. Therefore, you ought not to apply to Cornell at all. Makes sense right?

It was also ranked #4 a couple of years ago.

Bear in mind that recruiting for AEM is far above some of the schools that it ranked below. There’s only two ivy league schools with undergrad business programs: Penn and Cornell. Some ultra prestigious firms like Blackstone’s M&A Group and McKenzie Consulting only hire at the ivies; they’re recruiting at Cornell right now.

But def listen to those rankings. They’re more important than any other aspect.

If it keeps you from applying here, then yes, AEM sucks more than a vacuum.

I wouldn’t bother if I were you. No need for your type on campus.

Perhaps even more than a black hole.

I didn’t mean to say I am solely applying to schools based on their rank.

What I am trying to say is why is it ranked low?

When you guys are applying to schools…do you even pay attention to these rankings?

Another thing I am concerned about is what is the median salary for Cornell AEM graduates? Where can I find this number

This is my one moment to sound racist on this forum…but I can’t help it. JP 1000 sounds like the typical asian kid pressured by his parents to go to a “prestigious school” like Cornell, and they would naturally look very closely at rank and median salaries.

Want ivy league business degree? > Upenn
Want a great business degree education? OOS Public / Private.

Nah, enough light escapes from its black clutches for me to see just how ****ty it is.

Someone posted this on another thread…it doesn’t have AEM specific information, but it has median/mean salary by school, and by industry. It is interesting.

[Cornell Post Graduate Survey Results](Career Services | Student & Campus Life | Cornell University)

AEMs cell mate called last night, and you know what he said?

OK JP 1000 . . my two cents:

If you are primarily after a business undergrad degree from an Ivy school, AEM and Wharton are your only two options.

If you want good business undergrad education and want to be surrounded by quality students, there are plenty of options and AEM is certainly one of them.

As far as starting salary goes, you can Google Business World’s ranking which has that info. I recall Wharton, Stern, Sloan being at the top of the heap for median salary but AEM is not far behind. Personally I tend not to read a lot into that though. The job market in 2014 could be different from the job market in 2009 and your potential starting salary could be different based on (among many factors) location, industry and so on.

To answer your question “When you guys are applying to schools…do you even pay attention to these rankings?”, I would say I did pay attention to the details such as median salary and ranking. But those were just two of the many (20+) factors I considered.

I would say go visit the campus and attend a class. Talk to the students, Alumni if possible. Is the school good fit for you? Only you can answer that question. I would not have applied at AEM had it not ‘felt’ right – regardless of its ranking or salary earning potential of the program.

Good luck.

[Let me google that for you](http://lmgtfy.com/?q=AEM+median+salary+)

If you care about rankings this much, don’t apply. Actually, you’re “Why Cornell” essay might give admissions a laugh though.

The ranking systems are done highly buracratically. Look at the MBA rankings; last time I check NWU was ranked higher than Harvard, Wharton, and Stanford. Would you go to NWU over those 3?

Do some real research (and no that does not include rankings).
