How good is Duke for engineering?

I want to major in mechanical engineering and I was wondering how good Duke is for engineering. Also, between Harvard, Duke and Rice which school is the best for engineering and which school has the most employer recruitment?

i am interested in this topic too.
i know duke has one of top biomedical engineering programs in the nation and the world. (and is the oldest in the nation

yet true (and i am worrying because i might change my major) that i havent really heard their other engineering department.

Anyone???

Looks like several of us need some input about Duke's engineering. Anyone??

Let me get this right...you applied to Duke/Pratt for Engineering...but you don't know anything about Duke engineering?

Duke has a very good engineering program, espescially with the recent emphasis on pratt
the BME is tops in the nation

i thought JHU BME was top... with duke #2

bump bump ...

JHU is ranked 1 because governmental funding is considered for scoring, as JHU is right next to the NIH, it gets the most funding. I've heard that quality wise without considering insane NIH buddy funding, Duke is unmatched.

joemama, well i know Duke's BME is Awesome. that's why i applied.

And Yes I wonder about other engineering departments in Duke, because, iguess, I am being realistic and thinking what to do if i might have to change my major.

is/was anyone IN the pratt??

I am. The rest of the engineering department isn't too well-recognized or anything, and you might be better going somewhere else.

Amused , r u in BME?

just because it isnt that well known doesnt mean it sucks... it is duke afterall

You can't just say all of its programs are good just because "it is Duke," that's totally circular. I agree that just because it isn't well known doesn't mean it sucks, but be very cautious about generalizing all of a school's programs based on its overall reputation. Do your homework and don't assume.

yeah I am, the rest of the departments are just really small but I hear some of the professors are pretty good. Duke is not traditionally an engineering school, however, so if you're really hard core engineering, you'd be better off going to a Tech school.

Rice is generally considered better for engineering
