How good is Evansville?

Lately I've been getting a hell load of emails and newsletters in the mail from the University of Evansville. They seem really desperate (in their last email they that if I got accepted, they would pay my flight free of charge if I visited their Open House before I applied. That made me laugh. Judging from their colorful newsletters they seem to offer a variety of programs and the campus looks pretty nice...

anyone know anything about this? I dont see this particular school being discussed often on CC.

"in their last email they that if I got accepted, they would pay my flight free of charge if I visited their Open House before I applied. That made me laugh."

-Why did this make you laugh? Many schools do this for students.... including elite ones.

Anyway... I found this gem on the website; I think it's pretty funny:

"UE Named in Top 10 Best Universities by U.S. News"

I have been pestered by them since my sophomore year...

Was that US News thing from 1952 or something? I didn't even know Evansville had a college, if it's the Indiana one we're talking about. I get all kinds of college mail from places that I'd never pick, like Elmira College and University of Kentucky. Honestly, Kentucky! I suppose a school like Evansville is what you make of it. I would prefer an LAC over something like that with no national reputation.

Sorry kk19131...I didn't know..

and yeah I think they pester a lot of people..my friends say they've also received stuff from them. But I mean I responded to one of their emails with one sentence saying my stats (in one sentence) and then I get a personalized 5 lengthy paragraph response from one of their "admissions counselors." She said she would be "pleased to meet with my personally at my high school" lol

does anyone know anyone who actually attends evansville?

It's not too hard to click on the link and find out what backs up the PR info on their web site.

The University of Evansville once again is ranked as one of the top 10 Best Universities among Master’s degree granting institutions in the Midwest in U. S. News and World Report’s annual "America’s Best Colleges" guide.

"This top-tier ranking among institutions of our type reflects the University of Evansville’s commitment to providing our students with the best education possible," said UE President Stephen Jennings. "We are grateful for the community and alumni support that helps us to achieve this high level of excellence."

UE was ranked among the top 10 in the 2008 Best Universities – Master’s, Midwest Region, along with other Midwest institutions such as Creighton University, Xavier University, Valparaiso University, Butler University and Drake University. The region includes 146 universities that provide a full range of undergraduate and Master’s degree programs in 12 states.

As far as who goes, "2,676 students from 39 states and 50 countries". There is something out there for everyone.

I have a friend studying archaeology at Evansville. She's found it challenging so far, and she's someone who would've fit at a more prestigious school (like Duke ;)).

"It's not too hard to click on the link and find out what backs up the PR info on their web site."

Right, but at first glance, "UE Named in Top 10 Best Universities by U.S. News" would fool most. It's disingenuous at best.
