So, I was wondering how well known and how good SCEA is compared to other engineering/science colleges. I was scanning through rankings and I didnt see anything, making me kind of wonder.

Thanks

Do you mean SEAS? I have the same question. Anyone know?

The engineering school, on the whole, isn't a top 5 or top 10 research institution. Some departments are there, but others aren't. The rankings of the graduate programs indicate that such is true-- Columbia's engineering faculty probably average less grant money, less publications, less fame, etc. than professors at the top handful of engineering schools.

But, people pick SEAS because these things don't really make much of a difference as an undergraduate. SEAS offers an engineering education while requiring you to undertake strong liberal arts coursework (2/3 of the CC Core), the opportunity to be in NYC, a name-brand school that people respect, etc. SEAS students often go into non-engineering fields because the school attracts a wide variety of people, not just people who want to be engineers.

dangit haha i keep messing up SCEA and SEAS. I did that on my app too :p

when i was applying, i remember SEAS was ranked 14th among engineering schools. After being there for 2.5 years it becomes obvious it is full of people who dont actually want to become engineers but rather go into law/med/business school or go to wall street.
