How good is it to make the waitlist?

I've been waitlisted for a few good schools so far and I was just wondering if that means I have a legit shot of getting in, if I can really do well this semester that is. Do they accept a ton of people on these waitlists, or is it sort of like the "best of the worst" so to speak?

No...most people on WL's dont get in

which schools have waitlists for transfers?

yea i was thinking the same thing.

Getting on the waitlist means (usually) that you are well qualified for the school. You are of the same caliber as those accepted. But, for whatever reason, they didn't have room and you were one of the unlucky ones.

Unfortunately, in most cases, waitlists contain several orders of magnitude more applicants than will ever get in. So it is not likely to happen.

You can enhance your chances (a tiny bit) by letting the school know if you will definitely go if you receive a spot and providing any new information about your qualifications.

what do you mean?

I prefer jmmom's explanation but I'm starting to think that schools just mess with these kids by sending them WL's and giving them a false hope of having a good chance of being admitted, it's very discouraging but I definitely won't give up, I'll try to get really good grades and hopefully I get in, and yes many schools use WL's for transfers.

I have never seen a school have a wait list for transfer students. You muct be applying to some "special" schools.

I was waitlisted as a transfer applicant to UChicago last year. But then again, UChicago is a "special" school.

Actually many transfer programs have waitlists.

Meaning you have to wait until...

UNC CH is where I was waitlisted and I have no idea how many others are on it, and how many they take, but they make their final decision on June 30.

i was waitlisted for transfer to middlebury this year

waitlisted until when?

why would they want to mess with you? It costs them money to send out the letters, so more letters = more $$$

I doubt they care about how much some letters cost when they charge like 30,000 a year

well, what I'm saying is, it just doesn't make sense to send out letters for the sake of just "torturing" people.
They have a lot of people on the wait list in case that many people drop out of admissions.
