How is my resume, apart from the SAT I scores?

I'd say you have a good chance. All of your stats look good.

Being a first generation Indian-American is hard...I know. lol

Oh, it is hard, especially when your family has a different sense of politics, literature, movies, and school. Well, thanks.

Bump......

I would say that you have a really good chance of getting in.
You have good SATs, SAT IIs, good grades, medical related e.cs, and outside interest e.cs.
I guess the last important thing is your essay, because it shows how you are as an individual.
good luck.

CalTech has a program? What medical school is it associated with?

Yeah Caltech and UCSD med just started a program about a year or two ago. You get your BA or BS from Caltech and then MD from UCSD.

do u have to be a californian resident for this program?

Wow. So you get your BS from the hardest, most brutal school in the country... and then your MD from the hardest, most brutal school in the country? Sounds... fun.

Caltech-UC San Diego Medical Scholars Program

Beginning in the fall of 2007, Caltech will enroll six admitted freshmen as "Medical Scholars." Medical Scholars will also be offered conditional admission to the University of California, San Diego, (UCSD) School of Medicine, pending completion of their Caltech degrees.

This highly selective 8-year medical program will prepare students for careers as physician-scientists. Medical Scholars will have the opportunity to attend special lectures and colloquia that will introduce them to a range of subjects that are part of the medical school experience. Medical Scholars will also have the opportunity and will be encouraged to participate in summer research experiences with UC San Diego School of Medicine faculty.

Students applying for the Medical Scholars Program must apply to Caltech Early Action. Applications must be submitted electronically or by mail postmarked by November 1.

If you would like more information on the Medical Scholars program and the pre-med program at Caltech, please visit: http://admissions.caltech.edu/education/premed/

Looks even more selective than rice/balyor.

"Wow. So you get your BS from the hardest, most brutal school in the country... and then your MD from the hardest, most brutal school in the country? Sounds... fun."

lol Yikes.

Bump.......

I got into UCSD's program this upcoming year with a 2250 on my SAT, 800's on my SAT II's, a 4.3 weighted GPA, and similar extracurriculars. However, initially, I was an alternate. The essay they have you write after the minimum requirements was the most critical part of the admission process. They really want to know what motivates you to become a physician.

Anyhow, good luck....hope to see you next year!

Bump......

your stats look good...i'm in the UCSD program right now and I agree with College 564...once you meet the basic SAT and GPA requirements, it really comes down to your essay and extracurriculars

hey all,
so is the 4.0 minimum gpa unweighted or weighted?

chance me plz..
i have 3.88 UW, 4.78 Wgpa
2200 SAT but 35 ACT

5 Euro, 5 Chem, 4 Bio, 4 Phyiscs B, 4 Calc BC
800 Math lvl 2, 770 chem

NHS, high honor roll/honor roll, eagle scout, editor of newspaper, managing editor of newspaper, my own club abt helping younger freshmen, Science Research ( 2 2nd place awards), went to medical cetner to volunteer in summer and will volunteer this year and also do a project, Key Club (2nd most active member)

its all for naught if i dont meet the gpa requriement.... T_T

obviously weighted. how the hell can you get above 4.0 UW...

you have a good chance. is the volunteering medical experience, or was it just straight volunteering?

write a good essay too. it matters a LOT for the program.

it was med experience, not like looking at surgeries but more like medical techniques

i leanred immunohistochemistry and western blotting when i was tehre, and this year im gonna use those to do a project for my local sci fair.

really hope i can get in!!

youll have a good shot then. make sure to write a good essay (only 400 words). also, stick in a resume in there. the UC app doesnt give much space to talk about stuff. even though its like...6-7 months away.

edit: what i was talking about was for the UCSD program. the caltech one is just crazy...super hard to get into.

caltech med scholars is hard to get into, but definitely not as crazy as some other med programs (for example, ucsd’s) since the pool is only early caltech applicants.
