title says it all

on par with the ivies

Probably better than most of them I would think. It’s more on Princeton/Harvard/Yale level than the others I’d say.

Better than all except HYP. Equivalent to those I think. Also isn’t Cambridge ranked higher?

well oxford has won the boat race the past two years so it must be ranked higher than cambridge

HYPS level, as can be seen in international rankings, which follow.

pshtt American Ivies are way better. why else did Emma Watson decide to go to Brown?

She was probably sick of England and wanted to explore/see something new.

Maybe she wasn’t 100% certain about what she wanted to be. The British system of courses gives you a much more specified education.
And maybe she wanted to have a longer college experience. 3 years vs. 4.

I would never choose Brown over Oxbridge, but I’m sort of biased against Brown in the first place.

ETA: Actually, I just looked at Wikipedia, and she’s quoted as saying just that. She wanted a “broad curriculum” that she couldn’t get at Cambridge (she applied there and one cannot apply to both Cambridge and Oxford).

She chose Brown over Yale too, which doesn’t mean that Brown is better.

Didn’t she choose it over Harvard too?

Oxford has got 400+ years on Harvard. It’s Oxford, hands down lol.

Pretty good.

Sure. It’s a remarkably elitist school that is strapped for funds with no financial aid whatsoever. The remarkable degree Oxford and Cambridge dominates the power elite within the United Kingdom is pretty shocking.

^ Whoa.

–

Perhaps their system is more objective and wouldn’t have guaranteed her a place.

Of course Cambridge > Oxford.

really and oxford education is only 3 yrs?

^^Because in the UK, secondary school is a year longer.

Interesting debate =)

I think I remember that Oxford was the basis of all of the American Ivy Leagues. Since the ivies were made to resemble Oxford, I would assume that Oxford is better.

is cambridge only 3 yrs and if i end up going to either i only go for 3 yrs
does the 3 yr vs 4yr thing hurt american applicants

so as an american is it better to go to an ivy or oxford/cambridge
