How good is Rutger's Biomedical Engineering?

Any input from current students in Biomedical Engineering at NB campus or any other person who has first hand experience or information relating to it is highly appreciated.
How big are the classes? Is it possible to get personalized attention or help from professors?
Is there chances to do hands-on lab in classes or is it just text-book style teaching? After getting Bachelors degree, is there campus recruiting? And overall, how well is the Biomedical Engineering department is reputed?

Thank You.

anyone???

???

hi, sorry if this is too late.

I’m currently a senior at rutgers in biomed engineering.

my total class size is ~90 students.

If you’re a good student and have a good gpa, it will be easy to get a research position in the department. Otherwise, professors tend to accept honors students.

teaching style varies based on professor, so i cant really answer that question.

Job wise, i’m not sure since im still in undergrad. I was able to get a summer internship at a pharmaceutical company and my manager told me the reason i stood out was because i was biomedical engineering rather than just bio.

Personally, if i could go back and change majors then i wouldve chosen something else rather than biomed.

Good luck.

Thanks for the reply bme123.

My stats would surely make me into the Honors program. Do you know how big are the Honors classes specifically? And are research positions for the Honors students real competitive to get or almost every Honors student gets a chance to research?

Hi,

sorry, i don’t check this too often.

For Rutgers,

As far as I know, honors classes are only a few core early year classes. (ex: chem, physics, maybe calc? stuff like that)

When it comes to your actual biomedical engineering classes everyone takes the same classes regardless of honors or non honors (there are some ridiculously smart kids in my classes, and some who do really bad. I am about 25/90 in my biomed class in terms of GPA, and I am in the same classes as people ranked in top 10 and also people ranked in bottom 10)

So class wise, its not a big deal.

In terms of research, it makes a huge difference. Most of the professors at Rutgers for the Biomed department show favoritism to students who are in honors. There might be some competition among honors students, but i’m not sure. If you think about it, every year professor lose undergrads who graduate so i’m sure they look for new ones. Just make sure you contact a lot of them.
