How Good is Tepper?

I might apply next year, anyone?

It is ranked 5 for undergrad by usnews, and 3 for mba by wall street journal. Also, 6 nobel prize winners in economics (not counting John Nash who was in the math department). So, it is really good :)

^^ It also has a 5:1 student to faculty ratio.

who cares about faculty?? i want to know how good jobs are and stuff like that. i wouldn't go to a community college no matter if the faculty ratio was 100 teachers to me.

Student to faculty ratio is always misleading anyways, since students take more classes than each professor teaches and intro classes are always bigger than upper level classes.

Yes, Tepper is a good business school.

^ A lot of misleading factors do not apply to Tepper as the schools are separated. In my intro to accounting class there were only around 30 kids and only 10 or so after things cooled down.

In other Tepper required classes like Principles of Econ and Programming then YES the faculty is shared with other majors but for your upper level business classes you'll see classes with great professors and a great ratio.

Edit: Oh yea, you get priority in all business courses so you won't have to worry about space availibity with such faculty.

anyone know how many ppl get jobs or anything?

http://www.studentaffairs.cmu.edu/career/employ/salary/ba.pdf

i have no idea what that is, is that supposed to be impressive? anyone here wanna gimee some real help 'cuz without applicants like me u guys wouldn't even be there

do you feel the loooove tonite...

Really.

"I want to know how good jobs are and stuff like that."

Sorry if the link was not clear to you. This one is from CMU Career Center regarding 2005 business admin grads (ie Tepper) and lists their employers, job title and where the job is located.

Isn't this what you asked for?

You might want to lose the attitude when people are trying to help you.

GPAsux:

The link is pretty self-explanatory.

Pretty much everyone who graduates from CMU is business, engineering, or computer science is going to get a job after graduation or go to grad school.

Ugh here goes:

Tepper is the #1 highest avg base salary of any business school in the nation (tied with Wharton). 55k + bonuses + if you are above the median (remember this is just the median) = VERY good salary at 22 years old in New York.

The best Wall Street companies are Lehman Brothers, Merill Lynch, JP Morgan, Goldman Sachs, and the prestigious CGI-AMS in NOVA. According to that link, Tepper sends the most kids to IBM (5), JP Morgan (5), Merill Lynch (4), Lehman Brothers (4), and CGI (3-All Consultants). What does that tell you? Taking out IBM (which is pretty good too) you basically have Tepper sending the MOST kids to the BEST Wall Street companies. These companies are the "modes" for Tepper and every other company shows up less often than these. http://www.studentaffairs.cmu.edu/c...y/salary/ba.pdf

Carnegie Mellon is constantly ranked high for job recruitment such as "Hottest College to get a Job" and "Most Improved School" and "Recruiters's Fav for xxx".

Helpful post accepted. Thx.

Question: Does anyone think I should wear a suit to the interview? How many of you all did?

To my interview (at someone's house), I wore jeans, birk clogs, and a button up shirt. I got in.

ivyguy: where do you find the student:faculty for each school???

I don't know where they list the ratios for each school, I saw the ratio for Tepper on Tepper's website.

The factbook has (I think) faculty numbers and student numbers, so you could compute it yourself. Link to factbook is on the page of links for prospective students. I still think that faculty : student ratio is pretty useless except in general terms.
