Recently I have been looking at Cornell's American Studies major b/c it has a broad range of topics but allows me to concentrate in an area that intrests me more. I am wondering if 1 this is a good program for people going on to law school and 2 the quality of the program.

The popular Cornell in Washington program, which would be a great experience to list on a law school app, is very popular with American Studies majors.
American Studies is basically an amalgam of history, government, anthropology, etc. majors. So there are no straight "American Studies" courses- instead, the department creates a list of courses in other departments that count towards the major (which you can view on the department website). So it's hard to talk about the quality of the department itself. As far as that goes, the general quality of a course will depend on the professor, but I'm sure it's fair to say that in general professors in humanities departments here are excellent.
