I've read a lot about folks being accepted into the Honors Program, but haven't read much from people who actually have first hand experience with it. Anyone out there have tales to tell? What's the best or maybe not so good aspect of being a part of the Honors Program at Carolina?

bump.................

Honors program is great. Almost all honors classes are under 30 people, and usually with the University's best professors. The students in the honors program are the top students at the school and make the classes better, as most are discussion based. To remain in the honors program, you are required to take at least 2 honors courses per year, but there is no limit on the number you can take. Most honors students will tell you that while they might have to work harder and are challenged more in their honors classes, that the courses are actually graded slightly easier than regular ones. I think most professors feel that the students in the honors program are already motivated so they don't need to threaten students with grades to get them to work hard and make the class productive.

Wow! Thanks for your response. I've been invited into the Honors Program and your response was the best, in-a-nutshell response, that I've had so far!
Any dorm advantage? I know there is no Honors dorm, but if I fill out the Honors dorm papers could I possibly have advantage, and maybe more so if I room with another honors student? Creature comforts are important, of course not as much as academics, but comfort matters. Thanks for answering these questions.

In most cases, if you request an honors roommate, you will be put in one of the new (and much nicer) dorms on South Campus. The vast majority of people in these dorms are honors/scholarship kids. If you don't choose an honors roommate though, I don't think you have any advantage.

Have they finished selecting the honors kids from amongst those who applied EA?

Not sure, but I doubt it. I know people last year who got in EA but didn't hear about honors til March and April.

Some discussion from last year regarding the honors program.
