I know the graduate program is Number One. But how does that translate into an undergrad's experience? If a kid wants to someday attend the grad program, are they better off going elsewhere for undergrad? I am asking about an OOS kid with high stats and recognized writing talent.

The undergraduate writing program is highly prestigous. Many teachers of the graduate program ( recently) designated to working with undergraduates also.

I would suggest that you talk to the English dept. about this. Our D will be a freshman at the Univ of Iowa this Fall. On the few occasions we have contacted anyone at Iowa, they have been very approachable and responsive.
