<p>It very competitive actually. You have to impress the people. But even if you dont get in the Pre Med program help you get into many other good med school.</p>

<p>I remember hearing that UCR’s medical school will be opened in the year 2012. It might not be “prestigious”, but it’s new. :x</p>
<p>One thing to note. UCR’s med school wont be the traditional teaching hospital and such. Because of budget problems, the med school will use existing hospitals nearby, but it will have academic buildings on the UCR campus.</p>

<p>No. Just because they have a partnership program with UCLA that accepts about 24 people each year doesn’t mean their premedical program is top-notch. UCR’s premed does not beat UCD, UCI, and UCSB’s science programs. Especially UCSD’s. </p>

<p>No. When did I say UCLA’s premed is better than UCSD’s? If you don’t know what the UCR/UCLA program is - UCR is the premed and UCLA is the medical school part. I am saying UCR’s premed as a standalone premed program (despite the partnership with UCLA) is behind UCSD’s. You can’t just say that UCR’s premed is now better than UCSD’s or other UC’s (especially Davis) just because 24 people get in to UCLA every year with the program. </p>
<p>Oh, and UCSD’s premed can lead anywhere because students apply everywhere. Not just UCLA. There are other (and possibly better) medical schools than UCLA.</p>

I’m talking about the UCR as a premed school as a whole because that’s what people here keep saying. Just because of one program with UCLA doesn’t make it a whole better school than the other higher ranked UC’s. I would be more impressed if ALL of UCR’s premed students end up somewhere like UCLA or comparable to that. But no. You are only talking about 24 people out of perhaps 200-300 people or more so don’t say UCR’s premed is better than others. What happens to the other people who didn’t get into the program? Does that mean they are screwed?</p>
<p>Tell me, is there free lunch in America? Does everyone who get into harvard receive a diploma 4 years later? Of course you have to go through the program and do well to transfer to UCLA med. But the path is there, 24 slots every year. </p>
<p>I don’t think the program can be judged alone (as you suggested). That’s not how UCR premed was built. It was built with the partnership with UCLA med. You take away UCLA and assess UCR premed on its own merit, that’s just not fair, and not what it’s designed to do. </p>
<p>Is UCR’s premed better than say UCSD’s? I don’t know…maybe not, maybe you are right UCSD is better. But it is definitely one of the top programs in the field.</p>

<p>I would say UCSD medical school is one of the best in the nation. UCSD Med School has tendency to be at least the same level or higher than UCLA one day due to its research and innovation. The new medical center at UCSD will be build soon thus offers a lot of potential to grow.</p>
<p>This thread is old and the OP wanted a comparison between UCSC and UCR not UCSD and UCR.</p>
<p>For Pre-Med I think UCR is a good school to go and study there where you can polish your grade to apply to the Medical School of our choice. To get 3.5 GPA and above at UCLA or Berkeley, it is very hard but at UCR it is doable so it will offer you more opportunity for more interview at various Med Schools nationwide.</p>
<p>MCAT preparation is like SAT, practice and practice you can get a high score. Medical experience such as hospital internship is just a matter of time, student can do it in the summer.</p>
