I'm a senior in high school, accepted to U of M engineering out of state with a big scholarship. How good is UROP? I'm in biomedical engineering and would really like a minor in finance. I also want to likely go to medical school after undergraduate studies. Would UROP be worthit for me? Good research experience?

yes med schools like research

What about for non-pre-meds? Like, social sciences...econ/business...?

I was in UROP last year, and it's definitely useful for getting involved in research. There are business-related positions, but they're competitive.

One negative about the UROP experience is attending the weekly night seminars (6-730 <-- terrible timing) and doing pointless work. (This is in addition to your research workload).

Another option is to contact professors, who are working in research areas that interest you, and inquire about research assistant opportunities.
